So happy! Recently picked up Iron Guard blister! I was at my local GW shop in Denver, and was buying a carrying case and getting advice from the worker there. I was looking between a Vault Team and a Iron Guard set, and asked him. He actually plays Dwarves, and really said the Iron Guard were great. He also asked if I used Grim Hammers, which I am painting right now, and said that the combo of Iron Guard and Hammers were a deadly concoction that he uses. He said the Hammer's ability to knock down opponents and the Iron Guards 2 attacks could devastate. He also noted that for a good shield wall more then one Vaults were needed, and went into them a bit. I picked up a bit of paint for my new guard along with the case, so you think a good buy and if the Hammer-Guard knock-down-double-mug is effective.

As a fellow long time dwarf player I have to say I didn't think of the Grim-hammer and Iron Guard combo. Now I'll actually have a reason to field some lol.
I still prefer a mix of Khazad Guard with Vault Wardens personally. That D9 is just SO hard for enemies to crack and if you know what you're doing you simply wont lose a straight up battle.

I think Iron Guard are the best dwarf infantry in the game, because of how potent dwarf heroes are, if you can get two iron guard and a hero on a single enemy model there is a good chance that if you call a heroic combat, you will suddenly be able to 'catapult' said models into 3 other fights.

Iron guard are pretty reliable and their two attacks are their stand out quality. Dont rely on the throwing axes which will provide the occasional kill.

Iron Guard are really good berserkers and troop killers. Just keep them away from enemy heroes and bows - their defense is really weak for dwarves.

Who are you knocking down?? Some army which lets you get a 15pt iron guard and an 11pt grim hammer into the same combat?

That asside. The theory is great but the practice is that when one is fielding Iron guard you really need to be packing the high defence hold the line guys or other killers.... or spear support.
