Dwalin wounds every evil infantry model on a 4 minimum, 3's against everything below d6, and even monsters and the sort rather easily. He is the one model in the game that has the same psychological affect a monster has, but fits on a 25mm base. I think Gimli is great and all but Dwalin is just something else.

So long as you can protect him from bows. Heroes (and banners and suchlike) are some of the things that bowfire is still really good against.
I'm not saying that he's not good. I'm not saying that he's not fantastic (I actually plan on getting him). I am definitely saying he's got weaknesses. You can still roll under a 6 on three dice and even simple warriors can do damage to him if they have str 4. 6 is just really vulnerable to stuff when you're on the front line (as I have discovered with Amdur, who has fury to keep him around for longer).

Thanks for the response everyone. i think it stirred some interesting thoughts about dwarfs. I still think my list is pretty set. I don't really think dropping Balin for a captain and two troops really makes a huge difference. I have wondered if I should switch Balin into Gimli"s warband and have Gimli or the KC on his own.

I would strongly recommend you keep Balin over a captain he is much better even without the axe.
