300 pts any suggestions?

So in a few weeks I am going to a tournament. It shouldnt be super competitive. Most of its players are going to be new.

But regardless.....I was thinking of what to take. Its a really low points cost s obviously, its going to be important to pick the right troops.

I know that some of the players are bringing Elves and Dwarves.

Since the are elite and outshoot and outfight me generally taking evil, I figured Id spam Harad and Reavers or Goblin Town, or possibly a wraith and morannon orcs.

I know sometimes trolls and other troops can be devastating at this points cost. So what do you guys think?

Go for a rohan on foot army with grimbold and give al your infanty the special upgrade and shields making them some sort of uruk-hai.

I've used Aragorn and Boromir form the fellowship mounted at 300pts. May not be very competitive but a very fun list to use, as Boromir of Gondor is hopelessly under costed and Aragorn is never worth using at this points level. But it will always win lords of battle, and it's insanely fun.

The reaver list you posted is illegal, too many bows.

Also none of those lists really scare me, my 300pt hunter Orc army would nom nom nom at least 2 of them.

No, I just meant that it would be very hard.

The most competitive (and IMO most boring) 300pts army is 3 warbands of Moria goblins led by captains.

So the bow limit is per race, not per army? Because Harad and Umbar is one army list.

And what about your hunter orc army is so great as to beat this so easily. Ill definitely have superiority for bow kills before close combat then once you get there I have 2 attack reavers and a banner next to them.

And anyway, yeah, I too was thinking of taking my hunter orcs.

I have none with bows. Although some people say its a good idea, IDK. What do you think?

I have enough for two captains with 23 warriors to fill their two warbands. Some have two handed weapons and some are two swords. I can glue all their bows on their backs though.

The harad force is 50% bows. Because you have corsairs, you have to stick to the normal 33% rule as specified in the start of the Harad section in the fallen realms book.

Most scenario's would allow me to start quite close so I'm not that worried about shooting. Hunter orcs are good because they are cheap 2 attack models. I take a few with bows but dont tend use them.

Out of the ones you suggested above I think the goblins would do the best, ever better if you could work the scribe in. The numbers would likely be more than anyone else could handle in a strait fight. Riders will give it trouble though, Rohan and Harad to be shore.

Dwarves could work at 300 points so if you now someone has them you should be worried. I have only ever fielded them at 350 but a few alterations and the right board they could give anything a run for its money. You might consider taking dwarves of your own something like:

Warband #1
Dwarf king
5 khazad guard
6 dwarf warriors with shield
one dwarf warrior with banner

Warband #2
dwarf captain
3 dwarf warriors with shield
3 dwarf warriors with bow

Its just under 300 with plenty of decent fighter and a little range to give you some tactical options. The banner, king and khazad guard will make a nice rock on which to break your enemies force. If you start to lose you can back into a corner or form a circle with the banner at your back and just bleed your opponent out. Its not super competitive true but its like to give you better games than spamming hunter orcs.

This is the tough part guys.....any suggestions?

I have 25 Hunter Orcs. I can make 2 warbands and have 12 in one and 11 in the other.

That though, even with weapons added, comes to 278.

Should I stick with Goblins or should I take out some hunters and add a Goblin warband?

Im not buying the hunter orc named heros....way too much money.

Going elite at low points cost is definitely more effective. Taking monsters or top-tier mounted heroes etc usually smashes all infantry forces apart.

It's totally dependant on the scenarios played. If you play the ones from the source books there's ones that numbers will obviously win.
As for a straight elimination battle, I've yet to see the Hero/Elite/ or Monster army/combo that can deal with a true Moria horde at small (350 or less) battle. It's seldom close

Well although its true that Goblins are good for competitiveness I also want to use them and my hunters because I havent got to use them in a tournament or anything yet so I want to have some fun with the new Hobbit models and make the money well worth it!

Also, Im sure the scenarios are death match styled.
