So I've been working on Vrasku as of late and I'm pretty satisfied with him but I feel like he needs something to kind of push it a step further. Apologies for the picture and lighting quality. Took these with my phone.

Ok James, here is what i would look at if I was to push this further. I would say he looks a little flat and needs to have some more extremes in shading and highlighting. For example the leather.
In the deepest shadows look to adding a touch of blue or purple to the mix will create a cold look that will extenuate the shade.
Using the base mix to add some lighter tones and highlight only the highest points.
By adding a further glaze of black mixed with blue will bring all this together.
Obviously this is just touching on these areas and you will need some mid tone mixes to help smooth the transition between light and dark.
You are doing some good work and it is there for you to now move a step forward.
One of my favourite sites is Massive Voodoo - have a look around there about zenithal light and warm and cold colours, there are some fantastic tips from one of the best painters there is.

A long bit since an update, but my painting has been a bit slow as of late (unfortunately), but here is my first completed Abrakhan Guard, I think he turned out quite well. The Jewels have a bit more shine in person thanks to the gloss I applied to them. Hope you all enjoy.

Also please check out and like my commission facebook page (link below), and there you can view my first commission work for Miniwargaming's Matt. Although they look a bit brighter and all as the sun's light eradicated some of the textured look to their carapaces

I enjoyed stealing DMS' gem technique he shared before from his Smaug model. Always steal from the best!

So here is my current WIP.A Haradrim taskmaster! Using the Mumak champion model.
I removed the spear and gave him the Serpent Riders extra sword and am making the whip out of the wires from a broken pair of headphones. Obviously he'll be repainted as he an old model in need of an update.

Just wanted to share the idea and give a before picture :)

Nice conversion. If you paint him up to the Abrakan standard you set then you should have a nice Taskmaster there.

Thank you. I hope he turns out as good. Does anyone have any idea where the blood would be on the whip? Beyond the obvious of the tips having some I do not know where, if anywhere I should apply it

Nice conversion, i guess where the blood on the wip would go is not the sort of thing you would want to Google! imagine the pics.

to be honest i never really liked that bird head mumak champion when riding a mumak but your conversion makes him a lot better, fits much better as a task master, really nice whip!

The abrakhan guard looks amazing! really stunned by the gems!

The bird head thing always struck me as odd and not intimidating at all, which is a bit pants for an army of 'baddies'. Maybe they would be more spectacular with another animal theme or something to take the bird motif further? I am thinking about native American head-dresses and items here (north, south and central American btw).

I made one very much in this style over a year ago now, using a chain instead of a whip, giving him a wrist blade and a cats claw weapon too see below:
http://grungehog.blogspot.fr/2013/01/ha ... r-wip.html

http://grungehog.blogspot.fr/2013/01/fi ... aster.html

Also iirc another one of our members here has done a similar thing, but converting into a Mahud taskmaster instead, with freaky looking teeth and plenty of skulls on the back banner to boot.

I know its hard to tell but I was attempting to make a cactus that is fairly common to this area, that has a single red "Flower" on the top
