Glue?

Hey! Sorry if this is in the wrong place, took me forever to find the new topic button. Anyway, I'm doing hubby's birthday list and I've got his paints/models etc done. But was wondering what the best type of glue is? What do you all use? Is there anything I should avoid? He uses superglue atm, and has just run out, so not sure weather yo buy him more of that, or if there's anything better out there?

If he's assembling plastic miniatures, use plastic glue/plastic cement. This slightly melts the plastic and creates a strong bond for the miniatures. However, for metal miniatures, use superglue.

PVA glue is best used for scenery such as sticking flock and sand to a minature's base. Take a look at the link below which shows the different types of glues from Games Workshop. Read the description and decide on which ones:

Get Gorilla Glue as your source for super glue, you can easily get it from Ebay. It has a flexible additive which makes it 'impact strong, as they call it.
I have used many superglues over the years and there is nothing that comes close in my opinion.
If you have the cash and want to add something special then get some Woodland Scenic Realistic Water, it will help him create water features and as an extra extra some of their Water Effects.
The Woodland Scenic website has video tutorials on how to us them.

I use krazy glue. It's inexpensive and readily available.

I use loctite gel superglue, the gel form makes it really easy to apply and keeps it from running everyhwere.

Also, I would suggest not to buy hobby supplies from Games Workshop. Since their markup is ridiculous, you can get equal or better products at a much better price by shopping around.

Double ditto. Look for some discount GW stores online, or find a similar and cheaper product. I also agree Gorilla Glue is good (only used a few times though, before I had a major accident with it /-:)

I too would recommend the loctite super glue. It works very well on any material and is available almost anywhere.
As stated above never buy anything hobby related from GW. I only purchase their minis and paints (not spray primers) as their markup is insane. All brushes can be obtained from art/craft stores. Such as Michael's around here in the US. Modeling saws and knives (such as exacto brand) can also be purchased at such places or local hardware stores (such as Lowe's and Home Depot in the states). Spray primers (only purchase acrylic based) are available at these places or big box retailers such as Wal-Mart.

In short you can easily find anything you need for far cheaper for significantly less $$$$$

Ditto again on the GW hobby products.

Zap-a-gap (green label) is a very reliable superglue which is stocked by probably every hobby shop in Australia, it lasts a long time too so no worries from that side of things. Does the job very well without melting everything. Works excellently on metal and plastic.

Ohh, I know too well to stay away from gw. they really like to mark up on prices eh!
Also, is there anything any of you have really wanted but never got? Fancy getting him something he won't expect but can't think of anything.

I mostly uses superglue at my models. It´s easy and it sticks quite fast on the miniatures. If you use plastic glue from GW it may become like u need to hold up the model for some time. I really hated that so now I only use superglue. I recommend to use superglue.

Hey,
got the gorilla glue. Hubby used it last night and it's gone all bubbly and yellow? He was glueing stone to a base and it seems to have pushed the stone up too? Is that normal? lol thanks

Was he using Gorilla Glue superglue? I've never seen, or even heard of, this sort of thing with it.

My first thought is that if he was using the superglue that it reacted with something, most likely a foam. I think it's more likely that it was regular Gorilla Glue.

Yeah, I probably should have warned you about that. I used gorilla glue and had the same problem. Gorilla glue is good but you have to make sure you get the right kind of gorilla glue. Reason number 2 as to why i recommend krazy glue. The stores tend to sell 1 kind of krazy glue. You can chip off the swollen gorilla glue but do so carefully.
