The paintjob on the horn is great! Are you going to make just general hobbit civilians?

A new guardian of the Shire!

Not the most efficient models in terms of points (no reason to take them over a Ranger of the North really), but they sure are pretty figures. Saved the best (kneeling) ones for later, first tried out some colours on this guy. Normally not a fan of weathering, but it seemed wrong to have a Ranger looking anything resembling clean...

I think these are quite 'general civilian' enough, actually! Everyday clothing, improvised weapons - and of course there are still Fredegar Bolger and Ms Sackville-Baggins to do, who aren't even (properly) armed.

Looks very nice. I like how the good guys have flowers on the base and the evil figures have weeds!

Beautiful work, as always!

I have 6 of these guys along with Arathorn and Halbarad on my painting table. They are next!

Nice work, Great Conversions. I really want this boxset. I think some of the best sculpts are in the Scouring range

*Dusts off old thread*

Almost forgot to add the latest addition in, as seen in this month's challenge: Lobelia!

If only spotting the bad guys was so easy in real life!

Army Painter tufts (though there are cheaper ones on ebay), dipped in glue followed by Hasslefree Miniatures coloured sand (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?category= ... asing-sand). Cheaper than chips and lasts a lifetime.. or at least the duration of assembling a nicely decorated Shire 'army'. Noticed they sell pre-flowered tufts these days as well, but this allows you to vary the density and even size of flowers, in addition to a large amount of colours of course.

Aye, the Perrys once said in an old TLA interview that this was their favourite range they sculpted, and it definitely shows. Despite being terribly small, those Hobbit faces are just full of character - Lobelia above is definitely among the best I've come across.

Lobelia came out fantastic. The shire protectors are impressive too. Fantastic work.

Finally another update here!

Painted up 'Samwise the Brave' for the monthly challenge. As the mounted Hobbit characters don't wear their usual clothing, there are some interesting choices for the colours. I decided to give Sam a nicely luxurious looking tunic to stand out from the overwhelmingly brown/green/yellow Hobbit crowd. Thought it was nice to have his cloak in the natural shades of his Elven cloak (especially since he has the leaf-shaped clasp), but noticed there was a rim sculpted on. As such, I decided it could be the very same cloak, but with extra decoration added, also repairing the frayed edges.
Although not sculpted as such, he is supposed to wield Sting at this point, so I gave his blade a slightly blue shade and painted on the swirl pattern. He's riding none other than Bill, not entirely accurate for the Scouring of the Shire perhaps (I think he's only described as riding him when travelling to the Grey Havens), but it seemed fitting enough anyway.

Very nice indeed, like the fact its Bill and the Elven Cloak, nice touch. Where do you get your flowers from?

Was glad to think of things like Sting, the cloak and Bill before or while painting the figure, rather than after it. Few things worse than repainting a nicely painted figure!

The flowers are ordinary tufts of grass (Army Painter or MiniNatur), either dark or light green, dipped in glue followed by a dip in coloured sand (bought from Hasslefree Miniatures), either orange, yellow, red, blue, purple or white. Nicely allows you to control the amount of glue, and thus the density (even size) of the flowers.

Very nice work. The base looks fantastic. Great tip about the coloured sand - it looks very much like flowers!

Sam looks great, the face especially and the bases are something else, I must really do more than just sand paint and static grass, yours look much more realistic.

Beautifully painted, again! Good to see you got some LotR stuff done again. :)
How far done is your Shire army now?
