I cut the core from pink foam instead of MDF



I started work on the lay out and adjustments.





I am going to use the fieldstone blocks for the bridge parts. The cracked floor tile for the walk way and chipped floor for the roof. I need to work on the details of the back drop. I am going to use more foam core and pink foam than usual because it is so big.

I probably will make this part too. It is a more practical size.

The reference photos are often at odds. The set was different from the concepts and then overlayed with CGI.

I found a better photo. I moved the large tower to the back.

Two heads are always better than one.

I have some really good drawings and photos of the set and production models. So much was added as GCI.



The sections from the set photos are almost complete.



I need to see the movie again to make a decision.It looks like the tower bridge was added at the first white square.

I tried to speed things up with a hot glue gun. A real disaster. I will pick up some Liquid Nails. I am having difficulty keeping this modular.I used a lot of Pink foam to keep the weight down.As I work out a better plain I may use some different materials.

A very epic project, OMW - looking nice already now, but I'm sure it'll be a whopping masterpiece when done. I hope to have more time for Middle-Earth this spring - both following the projects of others, and continuing my own.

I have to finish the wall and bridge arch at the front of this section.



I am using this photo as the reference for the next stage.

What went wrong with the hot glue gun?

I used a high temperature gun. The heat deformed the edge.



The foam glue allows more working time.I used foam nails and tooth picks to hold the model together. My clamps were also too heavy.
