491 points, 5 Might, 39 models, 19 break point

List 2

Leader : Faramir heavy armour, shield

12 fountain court all shield

Madril

12 womt all shield 6 spear

Damrod

12 rangers 6 spear

491 points, 7 might, 39 models, 19 break point

i could boost both to 600 pts by swapping faramir for boromir with shield

what do you think?

The second, but I think I'd go with Cirion instead of Madril. I'm not saying that Madril's Master of Ambush isn't good (actually it's amazing) but he is with a combat group and there is already beregond in your force to hang around with the archers. Just saying that d6 is so much better than d5 because s3 (men, elves and dwarves) and s5 (dwalin, Uruk captains etc.) will find it so much harder to kill him. But then it's all up to you to do what ever you want.

could you give me some reasons behind your choice? because if the worry is might then i can take out a fountain court and throw in Alfrid. Maybey he could represent Denethor?

Well why can't Denethor represent Denethor?

Fountain court guards are really good, the only bad thing about them is having spears you don't need. With D7 they should be in the front rank.
Two make your list more efficient, support them with Warriors of Minas Thirit with spears.
In general you should always have either F4 in the front rank or the second rank and your high defense troops in the front.
So rangers with spears or Citadel guards with bow and spear are best behind warriors of Minas Thirit with shields and Warriors of Minas Thirit with spear behind Fountain guards.
An awesome list would be Denethor, Beregond and Cirion (fits the theme best I think). With 1/6 Fountain court guard 1/6 warriors of MT with shield and spears, 1/3 Warriors of MT with shields and 1/3 Citadel Guard with longbows and spears.

i would rather take a king of men then Cirion. there just a slightly weaker version of faramir the problem i have with cirion is his spec rules is that if no one in the other force has terror he is just slightly over cost with 1 less d then a normal captain but same cost value. (1 less might as well but i rather have my captains survive longer )

I'd take Cirion. One more might is more worth than one defense in my opinion.

list 1 its a pretty straight forward list, bit of everything and works well as shieldwall while rangers cut off stuff with shooting.

List 2 its a bit variation of the 2nd...

I still prefer list 1 as the overall you got more D7 models with spear/shield/bodyguard

Although madril is more resistant than damrod to absorv dmg.
Madril is indeed nice for controlling reinforcements, but not sure about it, Cirion for the cost seems more suited for melee combat and with it to face off melee more often than madril.


Have you consider Faramir, Captain of Ithilien? he came out on a WD magazine and its around 150pts

Not sure if hes valid anymore but was fun getting a full geared Faramir with a 12" standfast and some units in the army to count him as a banner of 12"

For Gondor!

Both lists look fine. Using warriors of Minas-tirith with fountain court gives you the best of both worlds in my opinion. Of the two I'd put the regular men of minas-tirith in front as it means later in the game you'll have more of the fountain court left alive. But if you give both spears you have the option to change depending on your opponent.

Don't use Alfred as Denethor. If you're going to use Alfred for an in game benefit, be honest about it and use Alfred. If you want a nicely themed Gondor force then just take the heroes from Gondor
