Alright, so this isn't really an update, but more-so a question.

I am thinking about using Perry's Mounted Men at arms for one of my factions of elves, probably the House of Feanor. I will be converting them a little bit as well. I will be adding capes to them all.
http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/ ... -cloaks-x5

My main question though pertains to the use of other heads. I found this website which offers a lot of bits from an assortment of strategy battle games.

I was thinking about using the Warhammer High Elves heads to put on top of perry miniatures.
http://www.hobbytitan.com/warhammer-bit ... -heads-5x/

This is just one choice of many other high elf heads.

Anyways, I wanted to open this up to you guys because I don't have any perry mini's or high elf heads. For those who do, will the Warhammer High Elf heads fit well on top of the perry miniature bodies? Or will the head be UN-proportionately large? This is what I am thinking to be honest.

Thanks

Playing both the games the heads will be large on them. Also when you compare the converted models to the normal elves the heads will be about 1 and a half to twice as large. However if the perry miniatures are the same scale (which I dont know) then it could be explained that these are the best of the elves so theirfore the tallest and broadest.

Ok, so I just came back from a 5 week vacation, and I decided to try out wet blending straight away. I got a lot of my ideas on wet blending on the painting buddha videos from youtube. I highly recommend them to everyone who want to up their painting game.

Anyways, I decided to paint a darker red color cloth.

I'm going to try a much lighter shade red cloth later today, I'll update you guys with that soon.

Alright, just did some NMM gold.

Also, I'm trying a color scheme that depicts Feanor's fellow noldor. According to most artwork of Feanor, the common colors include reds, blacks, golds and yellows.

The gold NMM is the only part done btw, the other colors simply have a basecoat on.

Also, I do have a question for you guys. What color do you guys think I should go with for the sash in the middle of the elf? I was thinking a yellow cloth? Any suggestions?

Ok guys, here you go. This one is basically finished, except the middle sash, which i'm still contemplating on a color to use. I was thinking a yellow color, will try it out tomorrow.

Tell me what you guys think about this, and the color scheme. I really like how this came out and am thinking of using it for Feanor's elves.

Looking far better than I could ever achieve, the NMM looks very nice. My only constructive comment would be the the cloak could do with a little more shading in the recesses but that's if I'm nit picking.

I'll second the cloak comment; the broad span needs some variation unless the light is drowing out shading - which happens easily.

Lovely work; been watching your 'tests' with interest :)

I agree on the cloak.

I want the cloak to be a bright red to contrast nicely with the armor and the rest of the colors, but I feel that it is missing the contrast itself.

Actually, in answer to your post's questions (facepalm)..

Not sure abotu yellow right on top of NMM gold yellows, unless you are intending a say; Summer yellow over say a sunset yellow?

yeah, I'm trying out some different yellows on other figures to get a feel for the color, because i've actually never painted yellow before.

Do you guys have any other color suggestions for the sash instead of yellow?

Alright, so it's safe to say I'm finally finished with this guy.

I just spent about 3 hours or so doing freehand work on the shield. This was my first time seriously attempting freehand, so tell me what you guys think.

Also, I ended up going with a dark blue color for the sash.

My first thought was ooh, I really like that blue. The second was, wow, that's some amazing freehand! It goes very well with the figure, and it is executed very well. All in all this figure is a keeper, the colour scheme, and paint job are both outstanding.

So, i've been doing a lot of thinking what I want the end product of my elven armies to actually look like. I wrote out the plans on another document, so i'm just gonna copy and paste it into here.

Ultimate goal for elven army:
- you want to depict the three main houses of the Noldorin:
1. House of Feanor=Wood Elf Champion, on foot
2. House of Fingolfin=Water Lilly Noble, mounted
3. House of Finarfin=Oak Noble, mounted

-use three thunderbolt figures to depict Feanor, Fingolfin, and Finarfin, because Tom Meier’s elves are good representations of 1st age elves.
1. House of Feanor
a. Feanor= L. A. Spearmen
b. Maehdros= L.A. swordsmen (own color scheme)
c. Maglor= L.A. swordsmen (own color scheme)
d. Celegorm=Rivendell Knights
e. Curufin= Rivendell Knights
f. Caranthir= L.A. Spearmen
g. Amrod= L.A. archers (own color scheme)
h. Amras= L.A. archers (own color scheme)
i. Celebrimbor= L.A. spearmen
2. House of Fingolfin
a. Fingolfin= Mirkwood Palace Guard
b. Fingon=Mirkwood Spearmen
c. Turgon= Perry Knights
d. Argon=Mirkwood Swordsmen
3. House of Finarfin
a. Finarfin= Galadhrim Knights
b. Finrod= Galadhrim Warriors (own color scheme)
c. Angrod= Galadhrim Warriors (own color scheme)
d. Aegnor= Galadhrim archers
e. Orodreth= Guards of the G. Court
f. Gil-Galad= Guards of the G. Court

So, when I was thinking of this, I wanted some model coherence, meaning I wanted the three factions to be represented my mainly GW miniatures. I didn't want to have one house being GW, one house being thunderbolt, etc... The only non-GW mini's are the perry figures for the soldiers of Gondolin.

There you have it.

Just tried a different NMM Gold, this one actually came from Gandalf the Grey from his NMM Gold tutorial on his blog.

Image

and a comparison shot of the two different types of Gold
Image

I think I will be using both of them since I want to emulate different types of gold to represent the many different houses within the noldor army.
