He looks very impressive - double coating made the colours look smoother (particularly the leather part). Great job good luck in the painting contest :!:

:) Don't get me wrong - your model does still look good, but in my eyes it was way better before you'd sprayed anything on it. I did this once to some of my models - and kicked myself!

I really like the idea of basing minis in this way. I'd suggest making the tiled floor casts a bit larger, so that there would be no space left between them and the edge of the base. Secondly, I think that it would look better if the tiles were smaller. Have a look at this army, I find it quite inspiring

I agree with Viruk. Your dwarf bases are great, but I'd make them fill the GW base. Very imaginative and individual work. My bases are really dull, I always do the same thing. This is partly due to laziness, but normally because I've got so much else going on. One day... one day, I may have a go at this. You have inspired me. :D

I agree with you... However, since it is a gaming piece, I needed to protect it in some fashion. If I would have sprayed a bit less of the clear cote, it would have been much better. I'm just happy that its not "ruined".

i hadnt seen those two latest photo updates before. I think he still came out really really nice. The dull coat looks to have worked in my opinion when you compare it to the glossy coat. Btw is it possible to use just the dull coat or would this have some sort of negative effect?

good luck in the contest, im sure you will do well

Just got back from GW. Pretty cool news for me -

Buhrdur won me 1st place in the large model category.
Riders of Rohan won me 2nd place in the group models category. (Thank again Tim and Valpas for your guides!)
The Warg Chieftan won 1st place in the 2 Hour Foundation painting contests! (Thanks to everyone who suggested this model!!)

Not a bad month of painting. Sure LOTR isn't the most popular game in our store (fewer entries) but it was still a good month for me :D The Foundation competition was open to all minis so it was nice to see a LOTR one come out on top of that one!

Thanks guys! I'll post some "final" pics when I get the models back. They are still on display at the store (along with all the other entries).

You are a painting machine Brent. I get a lot of praise for my terrain, but every time I see really well painted miniatures, then look at my guys, I get jealous. Congrat's on the wins.

Congratulations, Brent! It will be great to see all your minis in all their glory when you get them back (hint hint :) ) Good thing too that you showed that it's possible to win with LotR and it's not always WH that wins in the competitions!

Well I think you did a tremendous job there. The skin colour and the cloth really compliment each other, however yousay you have finished...no plans for basing ?

I actually did finish the base just prior to putting him in the competition. However, I didn't get a chance to take the photos.

I'll probably get all these minis back later this month and then I'll post all the final pictures.
