I've been toying around with some Dwarfs for a new army. I've put just about all the finishing touches on my test model. Here are a few shots. I've got some minor things to finish up and some hightlights on a few parts.

I'm going with a red/silver theme on these guys with a custom stone tile base. Any comments or suggestions on the color schemes or anything else for the models as I move forward?

Awesome stuff!
I really like the red/silver scheme, the highlights on the armor are great...very well done! The base also looks like it will be a winner.
So will this be the new army for Games Day 2008?

I agree with Dave, scheme is very , hmm... "catchy" swilver suits red very well. And the base itself is very nice, adds more dwarven climate to the mini :D

sweetness, my dwarves are blue and white, so its nice to see someone do dwarves with red once in a while. Very nice.

Nice clean painting. The sculpts on those dwarves are great and you made good use out of them. The face is suitably Dwarf-like and I really like the plate-mail. The red/silver dwarf colour is not my favouite scheme (IMO it makes them look like Christmas dwarves :) ) but you've implemented it very well and a whole group or army will look great. If I'm picky I'd say you need to tidy up the belt a bit but other than that he's looking great.

I'd like to see some conversions!

Excellent work Brent. What really stands out to is the color scheme, and the base. Both are great!

Haha, I just discovered this thread.

I like the dwarf! I'm used to seeing the disturbing green cloth from GW. Being
"color deficient" I am partial to red, and I have to say you really made it look cool. I like the armor too. Do you have any special color scheme for the elite troops and heroes in your army?

Keep it up!

P.S. Any chance you and Frank will take to the field as good?
or is there a possibility of evil
Figured I'd try to feel out the good: evil ratio for adepticon. I have some special models for my Morgul army to do yet, but I'm building my Osgiliath vet army too.

Its been a long time since I've updated with any WIP. I've been doing a lot of work but some of it has been held in secret because of the OR Awards

Anyway, in preparation for our local clubs Pelennor Field Battle, I painted up a Mounted Gamling. This was probably my most challenging model to date because of the well sculpted face and all the free hand work. I'm pleased with the way it turned out.

Its technically still a WIP as the base isn't finished  Hope its not cheating showing it here.

Comments, questions, critiques?

impressive!

I've never dared to try on this complex mini (figure, horse plus banner!) (though I've got the banner at home, in large ;-)

I think you've done a marvellous job on him.
the eyes give him a wild and determined look.

(I only might dim the bright green of the banner's (how you'd call them..?) bands/straps)

Thanks for feedback so far!

@ Beate - this is the image I tried to use as my model for the banner.
Image

I figured it had bright edging so I went with it.

@boromir - thanks! I'm not sure if this is the best hightlighting I'd done on the horse. Some of what you are seeing might be light tricks with the lamps I'm using. The dull cote didn't dull the model as much as I thought it would.

Now, the way GW did it was they printed off a copy of the picture Brent showed and shrunk it down and traced it onto a white banner with a pencil before actually going in and painting it.

I've attempted the figure before, and my freehand was horrendusly just bad. After which, I have been afraid to even so much as touch the figure, for fear of mucking it up again

I also have to give you kudos for Gamling. It took me 4 attempts at the banner before I gave up on it .

I, too, have balked at painting the model on several occasions. I loved the model and bought it as soon as it came out, but it's still only halfway done because I don't trust my freehand just yet.

Congratulations to Brent for being brave enough to give it a crack, and do it pretty well at that.
