The face really struck me too on the ranger. Very nice indeed!

I agree totally - the face is incredible - it looks like something from a 54mm scale mini.

So whisks are the new transportation down there? Brings a whole new meaning to the old idiom, 'going for a spin....'

Great face looks very real not like other 'pink' spin-offs of Dark Flesh ;)

But agian, some more highlight on other parts of mini ;) Esoecally robes and cloak.

Wow, the face on that ranger looks outstanding. Its amazing how much detailing you were able to achieve on such a patch of skin.

Thanks for all the comments guys :) I'm actually really stoked that you like the rangers face, it took me a while to do and I'm going to try and strive to that level for the rest of them.

@Victor: haha there's no pleasing you is there:P I'll try and get more pics of the cloak, as (honest!) the lighting was just washing everything out.

Hopefully I won't have to use the rather unreliable public transport systems soon (well, unless it's for uni of course) as I finally booked myself a practical test so I can get my P-plates. To be honest my friends were getting rather tired of me always asking them for lifts :P

Anyways, I'm taking a break from the rangers just for a couple of days(the lack of updates this past week were due to uni assessment), and I'm trying to finish that Orc Captain so I can go onto the standard bearer, or at the very least finish the rangers.

At the moment, I'm actually pretty sure that the orc's face could probably use a few more highlights. I'm having trouble fiddling with all the detail because its such a small area.
C&C always appreciated as usual :)

it looks really great. I personally always thought part of the shield was made of wood, but i'm probably wrong.

Looks really good mate, maybe think more along the lines of a bit of careful shading on the skin rather than highlighting as I like the tone you have already. Darkening a few areas here and there will give you a better look I think and also make him look a little more evil.

Come on ;) I'm not that bad :P Construcktive critisism makes us better at what we do ;)

Great mini here! I love the skin tone, lik Tim wrote, adding some shades would make him look more Mordor-ish, or maybe some scrapes or rust on metallics.

Waiting for rest of rangers mate ;)

Nice skin tones on the orc captain!
The ranger looks good too, although I'd say try to add some more layering/highlighting on the face. But it's a plastic mini.. so I know how hard that is.. xD

BTW, by seeing your last couple of mini's, I'd say you're really going the right way! As it seems you're really evolving your painting skills. Keep up the good work!

Hey guys, just a quick update, I've been fiddling around with the two rangers and I've undercoated another two for the ToP. I'd say the study for uni exams has been long an arduous - but yesterday I went and saw Sex and the City instead :? *looks around nervously* Generally I'd never step foot into a movie like that - unfortunately the girlfriend was rather convincing...

Hey lads! There seems to be a huge influx of WiP's starting(no doubt due to holidays) and after the tourney I decided to hit up the paints again. For a first ever tourney and considering I am actually rather limited in knowledge of "proper" tactics - still have a very premature tactical wit - I managed to scrape a Draw and 2 losses(I'll leave this discussion to the tactics forum however).

In any case, the end of the month is approaching, and so now I have to finish painting 3 more rangers for the ToP over on Warseer. I also got a pot of burnished gold a few weeks ago so I decided to start painting the last few armoured elves I have. My painting is very inconsistent so I need to go over all my old ones and apply the new highlighted stages as well.

Finally, here are two test WoMT which use lots of washes over they're armour in order to get the beat-up appearance.

...I'm STILL having issues with my picture taking. I'm going to have to start noting down what I'm doing. I'll probably be updating the thread again later today hopefully :)

Cheers

Wow, the armor on the elves came out really nice!
The rangers look ever so scruffy...very true to the films!
The WoMT armor in the 1st photo seems to show him off better than the second shot...I really like the shading on the armor!

Great stuff Haldir!! :D

There has definitely been an influx of WIP's starting, which is always a good thing to see on this site.

I really like the armour on the elves, they have the appearance of the ones in the movie! Excellent stuff!

The rangers also have a nice feel to them, the different colour scheme to GW and the wonderful detail on the faces make these look awesome.

Dude, great thread. Your painting is pretty tight and seeing the minis come together is great.

I like the Orc and Elf armour, and the Ranger's garb.

Hey again guys, thanks for all the comments :D I've been in NZ(Methven to be exact - spent part of my trip skiing at Mt Hutt)for the past week or so and after getting back I didn't really get any time to get anymore mini-painting done as I've been organising for uni as well.

So while I have no progress to update you on, I may as well tell you whats planned for the rest of this month. First off - finishing my rangers, and priming some more WoMT for the ToLP, painting my "Captain" of Rohan - and finding a suitable name for him after his heroics at the tournament I went to a few weeks ago.

Finally, no point of talking about an NZ trip without some pics of the landscape, as usual it was simply breathtaking. Unfortunately I was unable to go on the LoTR "tour" due to weather - but Hutt made up for it with some amazing photos.
