Great Ent! He's full of character. I like his pose and pot belly!

I have said it time and time again, that the game is devoid of some great looking Ents and an Ent army...those GW ones are horrendous !
Another welcomed mini, cant wait to see him in his finished form !

Hmmm, give up my Adrenalin packed, £28,000 firefighting job on the Southcoast to pursue a £19,000 job sat on my butt all day pushing putty in the middle of Nottingham.

As much as I like sculpting, I think I would soon get bored if I had to do it for a living. At the moment I only sculpt when I want to, which for now is exactly how I like it.

Does putty ever go on fire? These and more burning issues brought to you later in the Mordor Daily News...

Which reminds me - some graffiti artist in the Culmore area of Derry has inscribed a telephone network box thus:

An arrow pointing toward Derry with 'Mordor' on it
An arrow pointing to a famous village northeast of Derry with 'Funkytown' on it

Come on with those tree-giants! Funkytown needs them!

Well this mounted Saruman conversion was going to be my entry in the Craftsman 'Magic' category, but finishing off my ent and getting it sent out to the castors took priority, so this fella never made it in time.

It is an Orthanc Saruman top half, stuck on an old Ral Partha mounted man's legs, sat on top of Bullroarer Tooks rearing horse. then its was just a case of adding in the lower robes with putty.

I then added some reins and some Uruk armour littering the base before painting.

As usual, not the best paint job in the world when scrutinized through the camera zoom, but more than adequate for my humble tabletop standard. His sorcerous blast has already seen the downfall of many Rohirrim!

This is excellent work, Dave. The conversion is well executed and I have always wanted to convert mounted versions of Radagast and Saruman.

It's a shame you didn't get it done in time for the OR Awards, but I'm sure that everyone else will be happy that they have an awesome new Ent to purchase.

Ah, I don't really mind as I don't think it would have been a contender anyhow. I can't paint for toffee which is why I never bother entering anything into the painting categories.

Interesting that you mention Radagast. He is also on my to do list along with Grima, Beregond, Elendil and Halbarad.

Saruman looks great Dave, very inspired conversion, and good use of the Ral Partha mini to make up for the lack of legs saruman has! The only critique I have is that the cloak in the 2nd pic shows the cloak with a lack of movement - although it is easy to justify why it is in that position.

The ent is looking great, as usual

Awesome conversion! I've seen a few mounted Sauroman's and I'm quite sure this is my favorite version! Well done.

I have seen a few Saruman conversions, but this is outstanding.

Awesome job on this one Dave...would have knocked Bilbo and Gandalf right out of the running for the Master Craftsman award!
Outstanding miniature!!

I think you're being a bit modest there Dave. Yours is a worthy winner which depicts a wonderful scene from the movie/book and plus which you can paint very nicely too, which I think really breathes life into the diorama.

If I had to rate my own painting skill 1-10, with 1 being painted by a blindfolded monkey, and 10 being Golden demon, then I would say I'm about a 6.

There are a lot of 7's here on this site, a few 8's and even one or two 9's, and it is a pleasure seeing their work displayed through the compy's and these forums.

Brilliantly executed conversion, I love the fact he is rearing and using some form of magic, this is the best Saruman mounted version I have seen :)

This is definitely 'froth-worthy' Dave, easily the best Mounted Saruman on the planet. Normally, I like to give some suggestion for improvement, but there's nothing I could say about the sculpting that is needed.

But I will say, thin your paints more, and you're painting will improve.
