Have to admit that I am now really struggling, especially with 'brickwork'.
Just spent the good part of 4 hours trying to think of different ways to do brickwork in a different fashion to Alan's...what the hell, I'll get there in the end (I hope).

Anyway, all is not lost, been working on the first of the side panels and windows for the Parlour Piece, here is what I have so far...

Image

I am really happy with how the windows are coming out, this one was made with a combination of Garden Wire and Fine Fuse Wire. What you see is actually my 9th attempt !!! The key was keeping the Fuse Wire completely straight (hell on earth if I am honest), but very happy with the result, but I do not look forward to the prospect of making more (which unfortunately, I have too).

Heres a close-up of the Lead Window...

ADMISSION TIME:
I have stopped all work on what I have done so far...and started over :!:

REASON: Alan has veered off from scale and actuals from the film and more importantly 'Kicking my Ass' :!:

I simply cannot have this English/Aussie half breed beating me :!:

Seriously: For the few of you that know me for my diorama's, I always just went hell for leather to get the thing finished, afterwhich, I stood back and said to myself, 'why didn't I do this, why didn't I do that, I could have done this/that better'

So thats it, I want to start afresh, I have actually re-done the Parlour Window frame and windowsill. I am wanting to do everything in Balsawood, or as much as I can.
Update as soon as I can.

This is quite the usual practice for Brian - start something, do a brilliant job, start again, do another brilliant job, start again, (and possible one more time), finish it this time and do a brilliant job, and then stare at it for a week and find so many faults (invisible to anyone else) and want to start all over again.

And the annoying thing is, he does it a lot faster than I can manage one version of the same model.

Well, I don't think I am off-scale, except for the size of the bricks (which still looks ok to me) and if my version veers off from the film, it's because I'm building the Bag End that I want on my shelf and I'm using the actual designs from the movie anyway, so I'm not veering too far if at all. And yeah, I am kicking your ass - no arguments there. :D

Of course Brian is only joking - we're best friends.

But not for long. Here's my latest update:

Image

I don't plan on doing a full interior at all (I'm obsessive, but I'm not crazy), but some parts will be visible through the larger windows, hence the parlour fireplace.

Looks great! You are going to have to get a new Bilbo figure (or rebase that one) to put inside the interior!

Brian, I knew this was coming up mate, not surprized anymore.
You make something so stunning that there are no words to describe how great it looks, and yet it doesn't please you. Don't throw it away though, I'd like to see both of them in the same picture with the same lightsource etc, I bet they will look just the same anyway.

Both (projects I mean, not the guys behind it) look just awesome, best building-art I've seen in years.

Hem… well, let’s cherish my “much better” status for the time being – and long may it last! ‘Cause by the time these gents have finished their Bag End models the world thinks differently… (if not already)

I did a little bit more on the parlour interior yesterday.

Image

Sorry, the photo is slightly out of focus. I didn't use the flash and so the exposure was a little longer than normal and I must have shook the camera a little. Next time I'll use the tripod and light the thing better.
