Crumbly is definitely a word, you can get crumbly cheese that never melts, a dreadful combination for cheese on toast...

Yeh I think shields and perhaps a few weapons propped up nearby might make it more authentic. I've been thinking about adding wooden and cloth details to suggest orcs are occupying the ruins or have done in the past. Almost finished painting and basing my 32 orcs, updates coming soon

ps. I'll put a figure next to it for scale purposes

I haven't been able to do any more work on my terrain pieces as I haven't been home recently but I have had time to clear some of my backlog. I'm painting bits and bobs relating to the Pelennor Fields participant lists so please bare with me even if it looks like I'm going off on one. The majority of orcs that I painted earlier in the thread could be used in a number of the ROTK scenarios and so I am going to focus on the 'Good' participants and getting them up to a decent table top appearance.

First up the Army of the Dead. Using Red Corsairs method of white followed by washes. I opted for a Rotting Flesh and Codex Grey wash. Still needs highlight or two.Not much left to do with the Army of the Dead, I can't wait to field them in my next battle :-D

I applied the grey wash 10 minutes ago. Was a little heavy in places so I'll need to lighten them all with a light drybrush and maybe a very light wash to smoothen the drybrush. I prefer this scheme to the one in the film, the green waves didn't seem like ghostly spirits but rather a large wave of bogeys! Will have these finished by tonight :D

I think a wash should help conceal some of the drybrush work on the cloaks but the pics do show the flaws worse than they really look in reality. Updates tomorrow One Ringers :-D

I have always liked these miniatures so I look forward to see how they come out.

I guess what you mean by that is the 'grainy' appearance. This tends to happen when Drybrushing 'straight from the pot'. Easy fix is once the paint has dried after drybrushing, just dilute some Skull White down with water and gradually (through layer after layer), tone it in.

maybe one of the fancy new Citadel washes could eb the thing you are looking for ..?

Nice Work jack, I like the deviation of the standard green scheme .. these seem much more ghostly to me!

Thanks for the comments :)

I didn't use the GW washes in the end, they leave a slightly shiny finish to them so I just diluted some Codex Grey down and mixed a little Bleached Bone into it, applying it as a wash.

Did a little more today on the Fief warriors

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000301.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000301.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000303.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000303.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Mithril Silver highlight followed by Chaos Black wash and a final light drybrush of Mithril Silver. The sashes have seen one coat of Bleached Bone. I'll be washing them Graveyard Earth and highlighting up from there unless someone else has any other ideas. Excuse the state they are in at the moment, silver paint everywhere, I'm a messy student, what can I say?

C+C welcome as always 8)

Sorry about the flash, this is how the Army of the Dead look now. I'm going to base them once we break up for Christmas :D

I've made some progress with the Axeman of Lossarnach, though revision is slowing this whole process down. The sashes were given a light wash of Graveyard Earth and highlighted up using Bleached Bone and eventually Skull White. I'll be blending the contrast using a flesh wash, which is a little darker than the Bleached Bone but lighter than the Graveyard Earth.

Still lots of work to be done

I'm really looking forward to merging these guys into an army list and gaming with them now that they are almost done. Since the last update, their sashes have been completed and the skin and hair have received a brown undercoat. Their boots and cloaks have also received a black undercoat.

The following pics are with and without flash respectively

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000310.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000310.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000311.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000311.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

same again,

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000313.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000313.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000312.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000312.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I'm not sure which is more accurate, the sash looks to be more like it is in person in the 'flash' pics whilst the armour is the opposite. These will be finished by Sunday with a bit of luck and then I can move onto Angbor and his Clansmen. C+C welcome

Looking very good. I like the Axemen models and your painting seems to be doing them justice.

Thanks again for the comments guys, it really does give me the motivation when it starts to become tedious work. That said I've switched projects again, only because this piece has been sitting on my worktop since the summer. Anyway here it is all painted up. Still haven't decided whether foliage and grass and alike would be a positive thing, should I just leave it?

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000315.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000315.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000316.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000316.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

You may notice I added a completely new 'fabricated' branch, made from garden wire and green-stuffed.

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000326.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000326.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000327.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000327.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000328.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000328.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/?action=view¤t=P1000329.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z261/lorderkenbrand/P1000329.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I used a combination of brown and grey layers through 4 different stages on the trees to catch a rotting appearance in the bark and used Bleached Bone for the ground surface. The 'moss' or 'lichen' on the fallen tree trunk was going to be a speckled white however I opted to leave this in case it attracted to much attention. Ideas and C+C very welcome :-D

ps. those hairs are not mine! :kitten:

As the competition hots up in a Tale of 7 Gamers, I've been elsewhere trying to clear some of my backlog. Here's some completed Mordor Uruk Hai and Wraith and the Axemen which need their eyes, pouches and skirts seen to as well as some vegetation on the bases

Looking good Jack, suitable grim and menacing, however you need to re-do the rims of the bases, the paint is far too thin and the brush strokes really show.

Also, that's 7 new minis I couunt, that's almost half your To7G workload. Maybe you should focus your attention elsewhere, rather than waiting until the 22nd of Feb...

:P

The rims have been painted now, I forgot to mention that.

Lol that's true, however these were just black and grey and a bit of silver, nothing complicated. I've begun work on two of the models on my list you'll be (somewhat) pleased to hear, although I'm saving updates until I'm back at Uni tomorrow :D

Thanks for the comment, like to hear what more of you think
