Here are some scifi minis I have been working with lately:

Image

These minis are from Heavy Gear game, made by Dream Pod 9. The scale is 1:144, but since Gears are rather big vehicles, they are approximately the same size as LotR minis.

It was quite fun to paint something completely different from LotR minis for a change. I had never before tried camo patterns or "hazard striping" seen in the rocket packs and engines.

There's still one gear missing from a full squad. I accidentally glued the b-zooka in wrong position (sorry, Dorth!) and had to disassemble that gear.

Sweet! How many more squads are you planning to paint?

I have already ordered a Fire Support Squad, which has three of these gears and two bigger ones, and an "Anti-Rover Squad" with four gears. Then maybe some day I'll buy a strider, which is a kind of big three-legged tank. And some infantry... :-)

Wow, nice work Pasi. I've seen these models advertised before but didn't realise they were so large (for 10mm scale).

Do you plan on gaming with them or is this just for 'something different'?

I think there also used to be smaller scale version of Heavy Gear, called Heavy Gear Tactical or something like that. It afforded better playing with the really big vehicles of the game world, like battleship-sized hovercrafts and things like that.

These minis are really for gaming purposes. Two of my friends play this game actively and I decided to get some models too to be able to play with them. I haven't tried the game yet, but hopefully soon when I get the Fire Support Squad painted, I can tell whether it's any good. From reading the rules it seems more sensible than Battletech, which I used to play quite a lot.

Nice!
I really like the colours you picked for them and even more how you worked it out!
So great to see some more work of you again! 8)

That hazard banding must be tricky at that scale. Did you do it black over yellow or the other way around?

The overall look of the models is great, the earthtone palette gives them a weathered, businesslike feel, especially with the camo patterns.

Yes, it was a bit tricky. Because yellow paints quite poorly over black, I did black striping over yellow base. There's actually a little highlighting even in the yellow areas, but you have to know it's there to notice it even when you can hold the mini in your hand.

These minis come from the "Badlands" area of the game world. The area is quite arid, with lots of rocks and little vegetation, so I tried to create a camo scheme that would work well in that kind of place.
