what I mean is that you paint the 'front of the shield (which is now red) into a realistic pattern of brown, but as it seems you are very intent on keeping it red. :)

At least do a very swivelly silver pattern on the shield to create a bit of contrast.

Please?

Well, the back of the shield will be painted like wood.
Yes though, I am preaty intent on keeping it red.

Then I'd suggest you highlight the gold more, almost up to silver. That might look a bit better

Well, its already highlighted up to an even mix of Mithril Silver and Shining Gold, as John suggested, I'm a little worried about further highlights, as I might screw up some of my earlier work. :(

Look at the Games Workshop masterclass for Boromir. They have a great guide there for painting the shield.

Yeah, I agree with Hallpers and Joansean; a little bit of silver will make it look a lot better. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)

Alright, I'll highlight the metal up a little more in the future. But I draw the line at squiggles on the shield, its not very... ugh... Dwarvish (?). :?

Look for an update later today, I've been doing some work on the banner. :)

Actually, I agree with Sean on the matter that if you did some sort of elvish writing in gold on the rim of the shield, it could turn out magnificent!

I guess its worth a try, I'll see what I can do today. :)

Well, I have bad news, good news, and a small update. :D

The bad news is, I tried painting silver runes on the shield. It didn't work. It's a llittle above my skill level really. But this brings me to my good news. After that, I still wanted to try some free hand work. So, I painted a simple pattern on the cloak. And that brings me to my updae. :)

There are some obvious flaws, but I am very pleased with it, since it was my first attempt at free hand. It also looks better in RL. So, comment away! :)

Nice freehand. i am really bad at this, so it looks even better and betetr everytime i look at this. yea, a few minor tweaks, but too much pampering and you risk messing it up. leave it. it looks ace!

Thank you very much, James. :D

The main problem is that, in a few places the line is too thick. It shouldn't be too hard to fix it, if I decide to. The other flaw is the sizing of the zig-zag lines in the middel are a little off.

On the whole, I'm very pleased with it. Thanks again, James. :)

Lovely freehand! It resembles that of Peregrin Took's in his NMM article

Erm... no.

I only need to paint a few areas, such as the beards, for them to be done. I may work on them as I await my Iron Guard. :)

Hey everyone, I'm here with a small update on the Iron Guard I promised. I've painted the silver and golden armor, and the red cloth so far. :)

I must say you have a very neat looking army here Josh.

Good Job, I'm interested to see how you tackle the warriors. 8)
