The axe head on the rightmost guard is lovely... has a sort of rusty, used feel to it
Nice job though on all of them so far... the neatness is applaudable :)

Thank you very much for all the comments guys. :)

Last night I painted some of the leather areas, and the wood areas as well. On top of that I painted on an embroidered line onto two of the Iron Guard. I'll try to get pictures today for all of you.

So, that's my work on the black leather areas, and the beards as well. Not too good really, I think I could have done much better... :(

Well, the beards just need more to them. They are as flat as my desk.

Good job on the golden line though, I always find it hard to do freehand.

Yeah, a few highlights on the beards would cetainly improve them and the leather looks a little dark, perhaps you could do another highlight on them?

Other than that they're looking great, keep it up Josh! :)

Thanks for the comments guys, I was thinking of further highlights anyways, and now I certainly will. :)

Thanks for the encouragement ont the frrehand, Sean. I did a bad job on the line on the Iron Guard in the middle, but I'm pleased with the guy on the right.

I'll try to get an update in tomorrow, guys. :)

Great work Josh, 8)

Only thing is the beards, they don't really have any highlights, I would probably paint them with a basecoat of Codex Grey with a little Chaos Black mixed in then highlight with Codex Grey, then with Fortress Grey and then maybe wash it with Badab Black 8)

And I just noticed, my WiP thread is about 2 months older than yours, and you have more replies than me :P

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I dunno...

The gold looks to be far to close a match to the red to give any contrast. In fact, it's almost lost.

If you are feeling brave, perhaps try adding another colour above and below the gold line to make it 'pop'. Maybe white, or even silver to tie in with the metallic embroidery idea.

For the beards, a dark wash, followed by a drybrush of the base colour and perhaps a subsequent drybrush of a lighter tone will work wonders.

One trick to doing leather would be to give it a coat of gloss varnish, although, don't overdo it, as nobody wants to see Dwarves wearing FMB's. (Well, except me, but I'm strange that way), or use Scorched Brown with a black wash.

8)

of course, these are just suggestions, at the end of the day, they are your minis, so paint them however you want, and be pleased with the achievement.

As John suggested a wash over the beards would be a good way to go as they already appear quite light. The leather could probably use a highlight of Bestial Brown and then maybe another of equal parts Bestial Brown and Bleached Bone, otherwise good job! 8)

Thank you both, for the helpful comments, I appreaciate them (Well, except for the FMB-wearing Dwarves comment... Good God man! :o ).

I think I will keep the gold stripe as is, my intention was for it to be a subtle detail, similar to the way GW painted their Iron Guards.

I'll be re-painting the beards and leather areas, and I will certainly keep your guys advice in mind. The beards will most likely be washed as John suggested, and the leather areas will be highlighted up using Bestial Brown as Jack suggested.

Once again, thanks for the helpful comments you two. 8)

Like I said, it's your choice, but note that GW did it over a light green (Camo?) which provides contrast, rather than blending in.

I followed some of your suggestions on the beards, and I'm pleased how it turned out. I thought I'd give you guys a heads up, I may have a terrain related update for you later this week. :-D

TBH mate, I have to agree with the others that the gold is not really pulling its weight in terms of the overall image of the mini. As John has already said, the Gold is pretty much blending into the red, to the point where you can't see it any more.

I would actually suggest painting it in non-metallic colours - after all, embroidery is never actually really metallic, it's just an imitation with the current fabrics they have. I would aim to use snakebite leather as your base and then highlight to off-whites on the raised areas to give that illusion of gold.
