Thanks, Dave. :-D I think that I have to thank Miguel for the graphics at the planning stage. He made my sketchy plans look really great! :yay:

I'd love to see loads of catapults being made. Hallpers asked me to write the article as he was planning to build a catapult. If I get to see some new models being built as a result of this article, then it will all have been worthwhile. :)

I do want to sculpt a troll one day but it won't be for ages. School has just started again and we are expecting a baby to arrive some time in the next 4 weeks!

Get modelling, everyone! And please post some pictures of what you make. 8)

Clear to follow and the finished product looks BRILLIANT! 8)

I do agree with Fishlegs and gambit025: this catapult looks definitely more serious than the GW one, which is probably due to the painting AND to the use of wood for the beams (the splintering wood looks very convincing and I just love those party-sticks!). As for the painting: if one wonders why the model looks so lifelike: it’s the Black Paint on the beams & metal which does the trick! I have no problems with the basket but I might have used a real miniature rock. Nevertheless: 10/10 for me!

A few years ago I was visiting a ‘Robin Hood’ resort near Nottingham where they had some leftovers from the Kevin Costner movie standing in the park. These props weren´t much better than the one shown in the last pictures - and they were very good!

And of course my congratulations for becoming daddy again!

Fabulous article Nate! The sculpting work around the wooden designs makes this piece so much more lifelike! Great job 8)

Congratulations with your baby on the way!

Tremendously cool Mordor Catapult. MUCH better than the GW version, and a hell of a lot cheaper to boot. The only thing the GW catapult has over yours is that it includes a troll to load it.

Great article. Awesome article in fact. 8)
