Nice work Josh, the Lurtz looks great, but you might want to drybrush his armour again with some Chainmail

I was going to go for extreme highlights at first, but decided to go for very dull armor, basing it on this pic. :) Thanks for the advice, though. I'm fixing to go get started on a scout. :D

I've also done some work on the Uruk carrying Merry, some pics sometime tomorrow I promise. Unless my camera breaks again. But if it does, please don't kill me.

C&C welcome :-D

You've captured the tones and earthy feel of the movie Uruks really nicely. They're suitably dark without the detail suffering.

Also, aren't those metal scouts just the best goddamn thing? I wish they still made those.

ah you've made a very good job of them! yeah i also agree that you have captured the earthy texture as well as a darker shade without losing detail. Lurtz looks very good. Keep up the good work!

gimli is beautifully done . . . the cape especially.
the metal is very nicely contrasted . . . yet subtle, realy a great mini :-D
aragorn is painted very nicely . . . i just hate the sculpt . . . i don't know why it just dosent seem as good as GW's other models.
im not good with faces as you may have seen . . . but i think he could use another highlight . . . overall . . . you have some excellently painted minis there, and with only a couple of days work?
cant wait to see whats next :-D

I'm lucky. I have this place called ChaosOrc's superstore that still has blisters of them. And he has Ambush at Amon-Hen for 1/2 the retail :-D

Thanks. I was really aiming for that effect, I'm glad I captured it :)

Thanks. Aragorn's skin actually has more contrast in real life....I have this horrible camera. But I might give it a wash of Dwarf Flesh or something and then do some extreme highlighting.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I hate this mini too, for a different reason. He has no cloak. In the movies he has a cloak. :(

As for amount of time spent, I got these Wednesday. So about 3 days work in all, in between school and other activities. :)

As a matter of fact, let me just trash my promise of "pics later today" and show you my WIP Uruk w/ Merry right now, rather than falling prey to the call of Battle for Middle-Earth 2 for PC..... :)

Still very WIP, about 1/2 finished. I am particularly proud of Merry's face, the pic doesn't do it justice in my opinion. I really need to get a better camera......

:-D

very nice even when half way through . . . if you enlarge the pic on paint . . . you can just cut and paste the face onto another paint . . . then save it and upload it so you can see it a bit better :-D

I always hated that aragorn mini too. You might want to get the aragorn from BOTF because he is a better sculpt (in my opinion) and has a cloak.

I have Aragorn from BOTF, but he is awfully painted and I'm too lazy to strip him...... :)

I'll try and finish the scout carrying Merry today 8)

Well done! I like your miniatures.
Hope to see all miniatures from the box finished soon ;)

You should try to paint eyes for them. Or make eyeholes darker, they would look better then.
How do you paint dark brown clothes? I like them!

Thanks, SkymaN

I actually have painted eyes on all but the scout, I guess it's kind of hard to see them. :)

I plan to finish this set by next Saturday. 8) Then I'll start on the Fellowship set. :-D

EDIT: Forgot to answer your question about cloth

I started off with this crazy mix of Scorched brown/Dark Flesh/Bestial Brown/Chaos Black/Khemri brown about 45/25/10/15/5. I painted this on, then washed with Devlan Mud, and highlighted by adding Dwarf Flesh, with bleached bone added for the last highlights. 8)

I painted it with a basecoat of scorched brown/dark flesh/scab red/chaos black 25/30/35/10 and added scab red for highlights, and added a teeny bit of bleached bone to the scab red for the last highlight 8)
