Well I think this is the appropriate place to talk about this for it's a suggestion to the site. I've played many games where your able to get 'extras' and things by paying for it.. but the only problem is there are a lot of younger people under 18 who don't have a credit card. This also includes me & I'm sure there's quite a few on this site under 18. I would donate some money onto the site but I'm unable to.. so i think a texting option would be most appropriate. Don't know how hard it would be to set up, but after all it's only a suggestion. Hope you do get it up & working & i would gladly donate some to the site for i love the hobby & sharing it with people that like similar things.

Thank you
Drumtastic

Texting option?

What does this entail?

Well i didn't really understand your question.. partly because i didn't understand the word 'entail' which even after looking up the dictionary never understood it. If you mean what does it 'contain' I'll go on... For example

I want to give in a donation by using text.. so i text in a number & some kind of code ( for me only ) and then send it.. it would have my name & so on.

Finding it pretty difficult to describe it..

Wouldn't you still need some form of card or acount to transfer the money?

Ok, I understand what you mean now.

Well I'm pretty sure you still need an account of some sort or credit card and whatnot.

I've never used the method you are describing to transfer money, but you would at least need internet banking or something. I can see how it would work if you have a bank account number and you know the name and number of the account you wish to transfer funds to, but otherwise I'm not sure.

Exaple : When you register you will receive your own code and the send to a certain number. So i would text ''example 473849'' ( the personal code ) to 34212 ( the number which everyone texts to )

This way you wouldn't need any bank details, credit cards just a phone.

As me and KJ said earlier, you would still need an account or credit card. The money would have to come from some where. I think the text is just a way to activate the transaction. It is indeed harder for younger members to donate, myself included, but there are ways that it can be done fairly easily. If either of your parents have a card and a pay pal account, then they'd be able to do it for you. :)

I don't know about UK, but at least in Finland you can buy all kinds of stuff from parking time and bus tickets to charity donations by text messages, which is probably what Drumtastic means. The price is directed to your phone bill, so no credit card is needed.

Yes that's what I'm trying to put across.. it would come out of your phone bill so if you wanted to pay you would top-up your phone with 2 pounds and then donate that it comes from your phone.

The outcome would mean people could donate.. the site could keep running to it's very high standards ( has to be one of my favourite sites :D ) & also competitions can be supported but after all this is only a suggestion. So I'll keep my fingers crossed

If you don't have acces to a credit card you can use paypal. this can be linked to a normal bank account. this way you won't need a credit card either

Thats actually pretty cool that you can do that by getting it added to your phone bill.

I think you are right and it would be a great way of donating to the site.

:)

Yeah, plenty of services accept SMS payment. You just send a text message to a particular number and $ are taken from you phone bill and transfered to the owner of that number. It's a very handy thing and really easy to use. Actually, so easy that plenty of companies tried to take advantage of customers advertising one thing and "selling" other (ringtones services and that).

I can see that being helpfull for the site, but I'm guessing its something that would bring some sort of costs to the site to get a service like that to work. Online gaming and ringtones, for instance, have hundreds of thousands of possible users, we don't get that sort of crowds here. But, like I said, I'm just guessing and it might worth some further study.
