It is going to be a cave troll. I'm sorry for the slow update but it has been a very busy week for me. I need to make the body quite a bit bigger and taller but the legs seem fine to me. Any other advice?
Image

At the same time I'm working on repainting Ragadast. He's one of my favourite minis but when I painted him the second time he turned out too shiny due to the wash. So I'm back at him again.
Image
Any ideas on how to make him really special?

I've been really busy for the past little while but my schedule has freed up enough for some painting.

Here are updates on Radagast. I need to fix up his shoes but otherwise I'm almost done. Anything else that needs to be done on him. He's my favourite mini and I want him to be done well so any criticism will be greatly appreciated as it will help make the final product better.
I've redone the trolls "skeleton" so that if is the right size and will hopefully begin on his feet tomorrow.

I think his face could do with a bit of work, it looks a quite flat and plain. His staff (including the stone and leaves) looks like it could do with a few more highlights as well, but nice work overall! :)

I agree that the face is a little flat but the cloak is looking great. 8) I'm glad to hear that you did some work on the troll. :)

I'm sorry for the really really late reply. I've posted this three times now but the next day it isn't up. Well here it is. Radagast is closer to completion. I think I've gotten the most out of his face as I can but if you think I can do better, tell me and I'll try. The rocks needs more work still though.
Image

As far as actual sculpting I've only started on one foot. I have the puppet for the rest of the body done but I won't stay together so I will be putting it together as I go to prevent it all falling apart on me.

I'm sorry for the slow progress and I am myself quite unhappy with how slowly it is getting started. Unfortunately school isn't very considerate of ones free time and I've been busy all week. Though it should slow down next week and come to a close a week later so progress should speed up after that.

Looks good.

You might want to give the face a was with dwarf flesh.
and perhaps a few more highlights for the detail like the face the belt and the feathers etc.

The troll's whole body including its legs are too small. Considering that we are trying to meet the standards of the GW troll next to it.

I'm sorry it has been so long since the last update. I have finished the painting on Radagast but the base isn't done yet. I want a more detailed base then simply sand and grass but I'm not sure what to do. I will be making his base part of a larger piece, probably around the size of a calvary base. It will just have him on it but I want it to reflect him and his role in the book, ie. what he represents. I've got an idea but I would like to hear what you guys have to say and how to do it.

Well here is Radagast. I probably won't be doing anything else to him but I still want criticism and advice, as what I learn can be applied to future minis. I do notice how rough the mini is but that is due to the way I stripped it, which isn't great, and the paints themselves.

I've done some more work on the troll as well. The proportions have been adjusted and the feet are almost done. I hope to get stated on the legs this weekend and will post pictures soon.

He looks very nice mate, I really like the brown colours you've chosen and the face looks really great!
The mini on the pic is shown pretty big, so when stepping back from the screen for about a meter makes it look even better and probably much closer to reality! ;)
Well done mate! 8)

Thank you. This is one of my first real attempts at highlighting, rather than just dry brushing, so I'm happy with how it turned out.
I agree with you BucklandBrewer, next time I think I'll place the minis a little further from the camera.
Here is a look at the base/diorama. The plaster is a fourth grade project I kept. We were recreating "fossils" hence the shells.

I'm going to put a pool of water on his right, the depression right next to closest shell with the shell be a rock, and I think I'll turn the larger shell into the remains of a ruined tower, with a few piles of stones around the outside but it won't be very high. Any other ideas.

The browns are great but the skin is too grey and pale in my opinion. There are not enough "red" tones in the skin. It looks a bit lifeless. What paints are you using? The GW Dwarf flesh is a good warm skin colour. Why not get that.

Your plan for the diorama is sounding good. Though I have to agree that the skin does look a little pale/grey. 8)

I see you what you mean. present I use tamiya paints. All of their paints are quite thick and don't work well when thinned so I had add dheneb stone in order to make highlights, which is why it is so pale. I can't buy GW paints here in Thailand but I hope to get some for Christmas, which should include dwarf flesh. Until then does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? Would adding a light red/brown wash do the trick or should I redo it and add some red? If I redo it, where should the most and least red be?

And does anyone know where the thread with the different ways to add detail to ruins is? It is the one with mushrooms, vines, roots, and a tree stump. I had though it was an article but I could find it in the terrain section so I'm guessing it's a thread or maybe on a different site.

Thank you all for your helpful comments so far.

A red wash should do the trick and then just re-highlight the highest points of the skin.

The base for the diorama is great. 8)

Radagast looks much better but I would really recomend to try some getting some gw/valejo paints.
And perhaps it's an idea to paint the leaves on his staff in an autum coour scheme to get a bit of variation in colour.

I fixed up the flesh and but it is hard to see from here. I was going to say he was done but aqan, your idea is brilliant. I love the contrast but would having them only on the staff make sense or should all the leaves be the same?
How are valejo paints? I can only really get GW paints right now, though my rarely, as it is being sent from Canada by a relative who already has difficulty getting GW's, but once I graduate and move back to Canada it might be an option.
I've also finished the base but I'm open to suggestions as there is stillquite a lot of room to work with and it can always be improved. Comments and criticism please.
