As an American, I'm partial to inches. :)

I started off with centimetres, because the rulers in the Mines of Moria box only have centimetres on them. I switched to inches after about a year though, as everyone else I play with seem to use it.

I wish they'd simply come out with a "distance unit" that happens to be 1 inch.
IMHO they did a poor conversion. It's 2.5cm per inch (or as close to it as doesn't matter), which is easy enough to accommodate, I don't know what possessed them to round up or down arbitrarily.

Being English and a Warhammer and 40k player before LotR, I have always used imperial. It makes more sense to me, to be honest. I don't understand why they randomly decided that their third system should have metric, but even more ridiculous that they decided to have BOTH and stupider still, to convert them incorrectly!

Sorry, that's the way I see it ;)

They should stick to one form of measuring (at the very least per system, although preferably across all systems). That way disputes over range don't come up...

Well i have always used centimetres, mainly because that is what we use at school, altohugh i admit is quite annoying having to double everything for wokring out oddball abilities, like Sourcerous Blast.

As a British resident and WH40k player, I have always used imperial measures. Even before 40k I used inches.

Inches, as thats what the game was designed to use, the metric distances appear to be pretty random.

We use cm's as that's what the rulers in mom are. In real life I use inches though, even though I live in Canada! Feet and inches are just so much better for small to middle measuring, though in math, science, etc. metric is better. I am hoping to change to inches some time though.

When I first started the game I used cm, as I come from a metric country (Australia). However, I eventually decided to change to inches, as the rules appear more natural this way. I would definitely recommend changing to anyone who uses cm, however that is really just my personal opinion.

I use Metric for SBG, and for WoTR, the imperial system. weird, huh?

I only really play SBG and measure everything in inches. Makes more sense as the base of a mini is 1 inch.

I've never realised that before. GW always refer to them as 25mm bases, but it's the same thing.

Ehe! Nice timing!

With the new Warhammer version it seems that they will completelly ignore the metric system and from now on only what they call 'Measure Units' (most likelly Inches) will be the only officially accepted system. All the books and codexes will be reprinted and updated during the next year or so, but they will publish some free PDFs to help those with the old books.

I'm not sure if its something worldwide or just a new GW Spain policy (I read this stuff in a spanish site), but it kind of makes sense to me, to be honest. I'm not a gamer or anything, but if the game was designed to be played in inches, and the metric system doesnt work exactly the same way (there are those fancy equivalence tables), it doesnt seem right to me.

I'm not sure if this will extend to LOTR or not, but its seems possible.

I never EVER use inches, and to me that system just looks like one of those silly and bizarre british 'uniquenesses' :P but if the game was designed for that system, I guess it's the only option that makes sense and I'd use that one without any issues and totally support the unification.

I use the metric system in my real life and imperial in LotR and most roleplaying games. The conversion 1" = 2 cm except when it is something else just does not work in the game.

I have wondered this for a while, do you use a normal measuring tape to play? Isn't it hard to measure curving movement?

I use inches, as I just find it easier. For measuring as a whole, I use imperial for big stuff, and metric for small stuff.

Don't most tape measures have both metric and imperial systems on them?

Also, 2.51cm is equivalent to an inch, but 2.5cm is close enough ;)

As to 8th edition Warhammer, the PDFs will be to make armies actually playable in 8th edition as there are many DRASTIC rules changes that means things simply won't work on the current profiles and possibly special rules. It won't be an update, it will simply be a "get you by until your book is done properly". As tot he Spanish Books, they will wait until the current stock is cleared out and then reprint new ones with inches in (as they apparently have metric in them, unlike all other countries), but it hasn't been confirmed if the updates will be thrown in as well, although it would make sense if they're reprinting them.
