hi!

i'm starting to play wotr and i have a rohan army...

this is my idea:

theoden king
eomer
eowyn

6 companies strong rohan riders
6 companies strong rohan riders
6 companies strong rohan royal knights (with banner)
3 company strong rohan militia
2 companies strong bowman
6 companies strong erkebrand ridrrs

i think this adds up to 1000 pts, i don't hasve the book on me...

and i would like to know if this is a good list...

I prefer taking epic heroes over their corresponding legendary formations. Thus I would drop Erkenbrand's riders and just take Erkenbrand and royal knights. With the points you save you can pick up some more knights.

Given the massive amount of cavalry in your list, I would consider taking royal knights instead of riders of rohan. The knights are much more deadly than the riders, and somewhat more sturdy.

I am not a big fan of Eowyn, but she does have the surprise factor which I suppose could be game changing.

It is a solid list. However, it will have difficulty against magic heavy lists and duelists, but this is true of most rohan lists.

That list comes to 1350 points, by Armybuilder's calculations.

How about:
Erkenbrand
Gandalf the Grey
Eored, 6 companies, captain, banner, hornblower
Eored, 4 companies, captain, banner, hornblower
Eored, 4 companies, captain, banner, hornblower

That comes out to 995 points, gives you 12 points of might, ability to reroll charge distances, extra movement, and with Blessing of the Valar the ability to regain lost models. You can always ditch some of the upgrades in favor of more companies.

For the most part I would second the option to take an Epic Hero over its Legendary Formation. Most of the time the Epic is more potent (special rules) and you have the flexibility to jump Formations as needed. Erkel is one of those. Have him an Epic.

Aren't there also differences with Epic Actions / Special Rules between the Epic Hero version and the Legendary Formation version? I am at work and don't have access to my book.

Legendary Formations don't get the Epic Actions and Erkenbrand loses his Red Shield rule when he is part of a Legendary formation.

Well epic heroes have the word epic hero in their description where as legendary formations have no mention of epic heroes.

The distinction is one is a individual entity, whereas the other is a part of a whole.

One can move around freely and use epic actions and the other stays within the unit they were purchased with.

Just like if you take the Three Hunters Legendary Formation, you do not get all the Special Rules / Epic Actions of the individual characters. Legolas no longer has Crippling Shot, etc. As long as a character is available as an Epic Hero I rarely see a reason to take the Legendary Formation. Maybe a cost benefit, or perhaps the base troop w/ the LF is better. But for the most part it seems like building your own Formation to match the LF is going to be more effective, even though it may be a little more expensive in points.

Gwedd: I don't know the page numbers off by heart and haven't the book with me, but look at the entries for Erkenbrand's Riders and Erkenbrand and you will see quite clearly that only Erkenbrand (not Erkenbrand in Erkenbrand's riders) has "The Red Shield" and any "Epic Actions".

It will be under the profile.

If it's not mentioned in the profile, they don't have the rules, even if another version does. (Because that alternate version does have those rules, but it doesn't mean that every version does.)

hey i collect Rohan 1000pts and thats is over the points by a long shot. i realize you don't have the book but here.

eomer- 90 pts
theorden-125 pts
eowyn-75 pts.

6 companies of eored riders =180 x 2=360 pts
6 companies of Royal knights with banner -245pts
6 companies of Erkenbrands riders -355 pts
3 companies of oathsworn militia- 60 pts
2 companies of oathsworn bowmen-40 pts
Total= 1350pts.

Its cheaper if you buy Erkenbrand separate and buy the eored, then place him in it. all you are losing is the banner and the strength 4 which isn't much of a difference.
