To be slightly more precise:
You are awarded 1 gold coin for each british pound you donate to the site.
You can also earn gold coins for particularly helpful behavior, posting previously unheard (LOTR related!!!!) rumors, writing articles that are accepted, and placing in competitions such as the One-Ring awards and the montly Miniature Challenges.
