When you seek for a gaming board, I'm presuming that you already have an adequate tabletop on which to deploy said board(s)? Most people struggle with the actual table since dining tables are rarely deep enough and space is often a problem elsewhere, for storage or deployment.

I use wallpaper paste tables but instead of game boards I use green carpet tiles. They mesh together well, are a uniform colour which is broken up by terrain placed on top, are hard-wearing (obviously, since they're designed to be walked on!), can be cut up to make contours for smaller-scale games and are cheap. Alternatively, GW make their own Battle Mat of grass matting (more expensive than model railway matting but is in a single large sheet rather than the smaller railway ones). A third alternative is to use a thick blanket in an appropriate colour (possibly dyed to a specific shade such as green for much of Middle Earth or grey for Mordor or Moria) draped over the table surface. Thick felt is also quite good, but a good blanket tends to lose any creases more easily and lies flatter. You can even place books and other items under the cloth to create 'hills' but the slopes are a nuisance for placing figures on, especially metals or heavy models.
