I'm not sure if this is the current version of it, but it is something:

http://tabletopgeeks.com/lotr-downloads/wp-content/downloads/lotr/LotR-bcrulesredux.pdf

Edit: It seems that some things are missing from that pdf. I'll throw up a few other links, and continue to update the post as I find more information.

The old rules can be found here. This may be worth having a look at as it contains the battle company roster sheet, which helps you keep track of experience.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/6785018/Lotr-Strategy-Battle-Game-Battle-Companies

Additional equipment options are here, for those who want more variety in their games:

http://www.tabletopgeeks.com/wp-content/downloads/lotr/LotR-bcequipment.pdf

I have completed a Microsoft Excel version of the roster sheet. I find this a little easier than doing the book keeping on paper. If you are interested in getting a copy, PM me.

I still can't find the lists for the individual companies themselves, but I do have them on my old computer, which is a few thousand kilometres from here. If you don't mind waiting a month, I may be able to track the file down. However, there is no reason you can't just use the old version's army rules, while ignoring their special rules.

Battle companies is a system where you play with small bands of men (usually less than 15), and focuses on how these troops improve with time. Your soldiers gain experience by killing enemy troops, and this experience can be used to grant them promotions, or to improve the stats of your heroes. While most battle companies start out very weak, over time your heroes will get stronger, which makes it a very interesting game. It would work best if you had a few opponents who wanted to join in, the more the better.

As a side note, I think the game could benefit from the following house rule. Instead of being able to choose any stat to upgrade on the result of a 6 on the hero advanvement table, you could make that a point of might/will instead. As the rules stand, might is a little difficult to come by. That will make more sense after you read the rules, I promise.

The original Battle Company rules appeared in UK White Dwarf 297.

After some Feedback from players, the rules were tweaked slightly and written over two magazines, UK White Dwarf 311 and 312. They are worth picking up as they have all the relevant tables and character development sheets.

I also like issue 312 as it contains rules for Goblin Ravagers (Warg riding Goblins!)

312 was the first issue i got, and i still like it too.

The improvements on the equipment you can buy with your experiencepoints is fun, and adds a diversity to most of the games. Which is a good thing.

So, if I got issue 311 and 312 would I still need issue 297?

Thanks for the links emperor_thompson 8)

No I wouldn't say it was a neccessity, but 297 certainly does have a few more suggested company lists for different factions. Mordor, Gondor, Isengard, Rohan, Harad and Dol Amroth are all featured in 297. In 311, A Warg Rider Company was featured against Rohan. 312 has updated wargear for all parties.

If it's Goblins or Dwarves you fancy, then issue 301 has the lists for those two particular factions.

There was one, but I can't find where the redux company lists are. There is nothing stopping you from making your own though.

One improvement the redux lists have is the way special rules are worked out. In addition to the three different rule classes you can choose from, every race also gets their own unique special rule. This is mentioned in the rules. For example, the Dwarves had a rule "Hardy", which allows them to re-roll on the wounded hero chart for their hero. I think the elves got "Terrifying". For the orcs/goblins/uruk-hai, it works a little differently. They get a "shaman" rule, which gives them the spell "Fury". If you choose the special rule a second time, you can get "Transfix". Or maybe it was the other way around...

I am just making my first warband for battle compaies. however I need to clarify something:
the Starting Company is
2 High Elf Warriors with Elven blade
2 High Elf Warriors with spears & shields
2 High Elf Warriors with Elf Bows

within this 6 warriors I must choose the 3 leaders? also how the promotions work?

Thanks
