The uses for left-over sprues in LOTR seem quite limited - I can't think of many uses other than for making terrain or bow strings. And the LOTR terrain I've seen made using sprues has never really impressed me - they work pretty well for Warhammer 40,000 terrain but I don't think they do for LOTR. The terrain pieces themselves are often well designed but are let down by the choice of materials - it seems sprues are often used because they're a cheap material rather than because they're the right material for the job.

However with several boxes dedicated to the storage of sprues, I really need to start using them in some way.

So, has anyone got any more ideas for using sprues or pics of some good LOTR terrain made using sprues?

Thanks. :)

I don't know if you've looked at this already, but there is an article about building ruins from sprue here on the One Ring:

I don't know any other uses for it though...

my dad made me a trebuchet out of old sprues ages ago. it has a working whinch system and each piece has been given grooves to make it look like wood;

That Trebuchet looks great agincourt; so far the only use i have found for mine is making a little bit of sprue rubble to go at the bottom of some of my ruined building,; theres only so much sprue rubble you need though... :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys (and pic agincourt777). 8)

I'm still not totally convinced on just using sprues to build a terrain piece but I think I'll start using them a bit more often in conjunction with other materials.

:)

I like this idea: http://www.wargamesfactory.com/Recycle
But as far as I know it only applies in the USA.

If it only applies to the USA, then why does it have a drop down menu with every other country on the online address form?

I think this is fair game. Depends whether or not you think the cost of posting your waste is measurable against the chance to win a few goodies.

Also a bit open ended. What exactly is one bit? One whole sprue? If you cut a sprue into 4 to remove the components more easily does that then constitute 4 bits? Open to abuse if you ask me.

You could always have a look at this guy's tutorial, and make an Ent:
