I found a small hobby shop at the weekend and was very pleased to find that they stock a wide range of cork really cheap. They also sell match sticks and lolly sticks in quite large bags for £1 each.
Naturally I went nuts and got most of it.

I've never worked with small wood but I would quite like to try out a few small projects. I've had a look around the reference link but I cant quite find what im looking for.

is there any tuition guides anywhere on how to go about starting?
I would quite like to make a wooden bridge and buy the gandalf and cart mini.
Would also like to try my hand at making some hobbit furniture however I've had a little play and I'm having trouble planning and physically holding bits together while the glue dries.

Any help would be very welcome.

Clamps lots of clamps. Clamps are the secret to wood work. For very small things like the hobbit furniture. Try close pins like your grandmother used on a drying line. I use them to make books. Sewing pins can be used to hold small pieces while they dry.

I use a product called tacky glue sometimes. Wood glue is better. You make wood glue tacky by placing a small amount on both glue surfaces before you clamp them together. Then you wait a wile for the glue to become tacky. Then you clamp the pieces together. This make a very strong bond.

General tips:
Stain the wood before you glue it together. It can not look more like English oak furniture than to stain wood With English Oak Minwax
Large wooden beads make good table legs and bed post.
Pin heads make good door knobs and drawer pulls.
The cut off from Popsicle sticks make good chair backs and head stones for the grave yard.

I was not sure my explanation was clear. so I posted a photo of the pins.
I made a quick foot bridge. I did not glue anything. I will paint the parts first.I will also use some brass tacks I have the look like large nails in this size.You could set your runners on pea grave or small stones. They would look good. I was not sure what you do for road so I just used parts on hand.

I often use super glue (cyano acrylate) for wood work,it's like wood welding,one tack and you're bonded. PVA takes too long to dry for my likes. Just be careful working with it..or you end up as a part of your project.
