Due to the idiocies of some people in the world :-X my last WIP thread was partially lost when the website went down, since then I lost quite a bit of motivation to carry on with LOTR but like Gandalf I will rise again into Csblackhawk the White... or maybe not. So a quick well done to the admin guys for keeping the site up and running and a glorious future!

Anyways I have since restarted my Gondorian Army, but have decided on a new theme for the force. One of my favourite scenes in the LOTR is the bonus scene in the Two Towers when Faramir recounts the events after the re-taking of Osgiliath. It is this event that I will be attempting to model into my force. Below is a Rough Outline intended to keep me on track:

Army of Minas Tirith
Boromir, Captain of the White Tower w/ Banner of Minas Tirith [225 pts]
8 x Osgiliath Veteran w/ Spear & Shield [80 Pts]
8 x Osgiliath Veteran w/ Sword & Shield [72 Pts]
16 x Warrior of Minas Tirith w/ Spear & Shield [144 pts]
16 x Warrior of Minas Tirith w/ Sword & Shield [128 pts]
8 x Warrior of Minas Tirith w/ Bow [64 pts]

Stewards Guard
Denethor, Steward of Gondor [30 pts]
Beregond of Gondor [25 pts]
4 x Citadel Guards with Spear* [36 pts]
3 x Citadel Guards With Longbow [30 pts]
*one Citadel Guard will carry the Shield of Denethor

Rangers of Gondor
Faramir, Captain of Gondor (Ranger) [75 pts]
Madril, Captain of Ithilien [55 pts]
Damrod, Ranger of Ithilien [20 pts]
9 x Ranger of Gondor w/bow [72 pts]

Assembled/Converted
Undercoated
Painted

Without further ado heres pictures of the latest i've got up to:

Nice job! The metallicslook great on both of them. I'm not to keen of the fact there are no eyes on Boromir, though I can completely understand if you have opted not to paint eyes, as they are a pain. I just feel Boromir looks a bit wierd without them (though on Denethor you've gotten away with it, it looks great).

I agree, nice painting, but boromir's face just looks really weird without eyes. But again, if you don't want to attempt them then I guess it's bettter to have an eye-less boromir painted up nicely, than to have a boggle eyed one. 8)

Looking great csblackhawk! Nice job on the faces! I hope you'll manage some day soon the technique that fits you best to paint the eyes, I think, according to what you already can, you're quite ready to lift up your skills mate!

Just one thing I would suggest... Perhaps an extra little highlight on the fur on Denethors cape? Just a bit, not all over, just the utter tips of the fur or so... Perhaps by using the grey you already have with something like kommando khaki, or bleached bone, or graveyard earth or so... (just to make sure his hair doesn't have the same colour as the fur...)

Great work though, I look forward to more!

Looks awesome but I might suggest one small thing: Denethor's face looks a little bit...sort of..chubby? instead of being lean and old-looking.
Faces are always hard to do from my experience but I really think it could be that much better. :)
Could be something to do with the photo.

Anyway, I'd love to see more. :D

Great to see Gondor coming first. My favourite army too! Your painting looks pretty top notch. That Boromir model with flag and armour is a great peice, I've been trying to get my hands on one. Looking forward to more progress.

I think it has something to do with the photo indeed, the same thing happened to my Saruman...

Looking good. The freehand on the banner looks quite nice. I sometimes skimp on the eyes too, if I think I can get away with it. Especially on my rank and file troops.

I like your color-coded list. You think like I do!

Change of plan to the army may I present,
The Captains of the Outlands
Image

Most of the work on these guys is finished just the details such as the tartan pattern and touching up the blues, and then I just need Duinhir of Blackroot Vale to finish them off.

I’m back again!! So let’s pick up where I left off shall we and jump straight back in!

First Up Is Beregond and His Buddies (minus pippin of course)
Image
These have been sitting around for ages, mainly due to the fact that I dislike the second, spear lowered pose. So the next time in buy some Citadel Guard I’ll go for the second pack as the guardsman poses are more thematic for the Guards of the Citadel (even if they do look like their chuckling at the sky). Also I realise Beregonds face isn’t exactly great but there was a huge mould line across his face which when removed made his face warped into a impossible and slightly scary aspect.

Secondly it’s the Guards of the Fountain Court, sporting shields.
Image
Not everyone’s cup of tea I know, as the extra point of defence isn’t really needed by the very heavy armoured elite of Gondor, but as I already had Citadel Guards equipped only with spears, I decided to take then in a different direction. Instead of the standard gold trim I seen on the heavy metal versions I went for the same style trim as on the Citadel Guards in order to tie the two elite units together.

Finally it’s Imrahil and his Swan Buddies
Image
I painted these just after the plastic swan knights came out and I have to say there very enjoyable to paint. The old style helmets are a particular joy or maybe it’s just the fantasy-esque style which i enjoy.

Comments and Criticism as always are welcome

Many thanks
