I've started painting and rebuilding some old airplanes I had in some way to dusty box.
They have a lot less detail than normal 28mm miniatures and that was just what I was looking for (caught another cold/flue so, don't want any really difficult miniatures atm)
first up is an old sopwith camel mounted on a cavalry base.

He still needs some touch ups (the wings especially),decals and a nice base.
everything is freehand (and messy at the moment  ) except the circles on the wings (how do you call them).
so far, I'm quite pleased with the result.
furthemore I have a few other broken planes in the box and I've ordered a big republican roman army and some winged hussars.

now it'll probably take some time untill the first romans will apear in this thread but I just couldn't resist ordering them
(100 infantry 20 cavaly and 16 polish winged hussars for 26 euros including the postage :D )

c&c are most welcome

More than a week and still no replies.. :( , I must be a very popular person around here   .

Small update on the camel.
Image
As you can see I've added some layers of khomado khaki to the wings, one of them is nearly finished, the other just started.

And my order arived abouth 10 days ago. :D
this is only a part of all the minis because I haven't yet assembled them all.

and the hussars.

and a scale photo, they are somewhere between 23and25mm
Image
these minis are quite hard to paint even if they are just a few mm smaller than the lotr ones.
(now i have lot of respect for 10mm painters)

If anyone want to order some of these minis I can highly recommend http://www.modelwereld.eu/catalog/
this is where I got them, low postal charges (50 cent for every product in my case) and the order arrived within a day in excellent condition. 8)

comments on how to improve the sopwith are most welcome (and of course on the romans aswell)

Hell yeah ! Hussars !! Best heavy cavalry :)

I must say I personnaly can't wait to see how you'll finish them, they are highly detailed minis for such scale as shown on the photos. So if you paint them right whole band will be awesome I hope ;)

Sorry I missed the first post. The sopwith looks good. The top looks really good but the underside is a little rough. I remember how difficult those planes were to paint, just too much flat space. I never really figured out how to paint them well except using an airbrush, I guess just thin you paints down a little more.
I'm looking forwards to seeing how the others will turn out. Good luck with them and your flue.

Thanks for the comments, they are really encouraging. :D
@ dloel there are indeed huge flat areas but that also makes it very simple.

I've started with undercoating the hussars but everytime I add paint it just vanishes,
I've already given them a warm watter bath but I'll try that again very soon.

@haldir sfanpl: of course I can only disappoint you as my painting skills are pathetic compared to yours.
But I'll try to do what I can.
I would love to see what your painting skills can do with one of these because as you said they really are highly detailed.

more updates will follow.

I've made a bit of progress on the hussars. :D
I have to say that the hussars are a horror to paint, as the paint just vanishes while you look at it and it's soft plastic so, paint chips of quite easily.
But the first winged hussar (this one hasn't got wings because not all of them come with wings.) is finished.
I hope you like it.
Image Image.
(the grey dot on his shoulder is a wolf pelt and has a lot more variety in colour in real life.)

Comments and criticism are more than welcome!

Looks really good, maybe neaten up the base paintjob a bit to match the cleaness of the model.

Hi!
If I were you I would try to five him more highlights. He is 2dark IMO, you have to show us his details using light and shadow :) Try to improve it, its worth practising.
I have a short film for you
Hussar's charge could be usefull, quiet inspiring :)

For us (Poles) winged Hussars are symbol of Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth power :) If you want to read more about them check out this link.

Im looking forward to see new pics :)
Have a nice day!

It's been a while since I posted here, but finally here's another update.
I've not jet done a lot on the hussars, I'll work on them in the near future, but school takes a lot of my time these days.
@old man willow: thanks for the idea of useing vinegar on the romans and hussars. It worked so most of the romans have a basecoat now that actually stays on them.
@gildor: I agree about the highlights, I'll work on that now that the paint no longer vanishes (thanks to the vinegar) .

In the meantime here's comepletely something else.
I've always wanted to build a miniture cathedral, but that would still be a huge thing and I don't have room for it atm, so I've started on a Norman church.
Here's are some picture of the progress.
'Image

Image
@drumstick: the plaster you told me about is great.
I ordered 25kg of it, itd arrive within a week and the price and the quality are a lot better than of what I used before. 8)

Progress will be slow as usual, but I'll work on this in the weekends and a test week is coming up and that usually means that it won't be such a busy period.

Oh and I'm going to london on tuesday, so I probably won't reply untill next sunday.

Here's, as promissed, the update.
Got myself a concussion, due to an open hatch.
As I've had a lot of problems with my head/brain in the past, the doctor ordered me to take some rest.
So, I've started working on the church again.

I wanted to try making stained glass and this is the best I've come up with, but the ink is drying very slowly.
(will probably have to wait for another week before I now if it worked.)

Please tell me what you think of it.

Looks good. Love the stained glass. Are you going to color the film/plastic?

Thanks for the comments.

If it works I'll add some touch-ups, but I fear that it will be ruined if I use to much paint on it, as it doesn't sticks very well.

Thanks, I cut the plastic cover from an old economics syllabus and then printed the windows on the plastic.

Will probably make an update somewhere in the weekend.

It's been quite a while since the last update, but finally here it is.
I've done a bit more work on the the church.

(this is only part of the inner roof, on the outside there will be lead.)
Unfortunately, the ink did not dry on the plastic, so the windows will have normal glass.
I don't know how things will go, but I'l try to give semi-regular updates.
