Hey folks, I was just wondering how you remove paint from your figures. Are there any special brands or are they all relativley the same. I have the feeling that you need two different kinds for the plastic and metal models, or am I just talking gibberish?

Thank's In Advance

Well nail varnish only works on metals because it melts plastic. But I use Fairy power spray. Just squirt it on wait 30-40 mins and then scrub off with an old toothbrush works best on metals but leaves undercoat intact for plastics. Of course Simple Green is better but those Americans are hogging it... :P
Hope this helps.

Wouldnt recommend acetone. Tried it on a space marine and it melted all the detail as well as the boltgun

Drumstick, definitely 'Simple Green', if you can get it. It is a wonder stripper, does both metals and plastics and the worst effect anyone can find it having on the model itself is a slight green discolouration if left soaking for a very long time.

Right so the majority of the vote go for simple green I see, and iot's pretty effective by the looks of it too. It's an American product I'm guessing so fairy liquid may be easier to get a hold of as Cyndra said. I had a quick search for it on ebay and it came up with a list of womens clothings, I wasn't searching for that - honest! Know anywhere I could get hold of it cheap? otherwise I'll go with Cyndra's suggestion.

If you do go with fairy use this sort of stuff not the washing up liquid:

I use dettol - works a treat, with just a small bit of discolouration of the model.

Leave the miniature submerged in Metholated spirits for a while and then use an old tooth brush to scrub the paint off when you take him out.

Leave him in the metho for maybe 2 hours. Maybe more if need be.

I think this is about the fifth time someone has asked this question (myself included)- maybe its time for an article? :)

I think you can also use acetone-free nail varnish remover, but I haven't ever used it since I just use meths like samoht suggested.

I've used nail polish remover and acetone, which works on metals. They both have noxious vapors so you must use ventilation; especially for acetone. The last time I used nail polish remover, I didn't use gloves and it irritated my skin. Nasty chaffing from the scrubbing with the toothbrush. I use Simple Green now.

ive had experience in oven cleaner. I stripped a range and the only paint was left was black in the deep crevises, essiantly it looked like a light wash.
However ive tried it on older models (1-2 years) and it did nothing except chip the paint slightly.

Hi guys, I tried to remove some paint today on metal figures. I used nail polish remover but it didn't got off to good. How do you get the small details cleaned? It doesn't work well enough; I also tried "white spirit" it got it cleaner then the nail remover but it's not going smoothlyl.
I used a toothbrush with some of the product and brushed over it. Am I doing something wrong?

How many days did you leave it in to soak?

Yes you do. I tend to soak mine for a week or some, but 24 hours may be enough.
