Morannon Orc- 6 decent but i like archers so :(
Half Troll of Far Harad-7 to easy to kill but if screned they reac havoc in close combat

Iron Guard-8 They make very good flankers and kill stuff very quickly, especially D4
Citadel Guard-N/A
Guard of the Fountain Court-N/A
Warrior of Arnor-N/A
Corsair of Umbar-N/A (for now, I have some still in the box but I've been away and haven't been able to test them yet.)
Morannon Orc-9 excellent, tough, cheap, and kill lots of stuff. One of the best base-troops in the game.
Half Troll of Far Harad-N/A
Mumakil-7 very good against troops early on but can be taken out by a tough hero with some support
Grimbold-N/A
Mahud Beastmaster Chieftain-N/A

Iron Guard - 8 The dwarves main shock trooper. They have two attacks and throwing weapons, perfect for destroying all nearby opponents. Their only downside is the low (for dwarves) defence six, and maybe their cost.
Citadel Guard - 8 These guys are good with their psuedo elven bows, and can make a great mounted horse archer force. They only have a 4+ shoot value though.
Guard of the Fountain Court - 6 Your average elite unit, probably don't want to equip with spears though as you want the fight four in the front rank.
Warrior of Arnor - 7 They all have spears, so they can be quite fluid. They also have fight four and defence six. The only downside is their courage, but arvedui can partially solve that, and malbeth is just plain awesome.
Corsair of Umbar - 7 Fight four, and throwing weapons on all your warriors? Support them with haradrim and they can do great. The low defence is one of the only drawbacks.
Morannon Orc - 9 The most common evil warrior, and with strength four, defence six, and spears there's a reason they're so popular. They do suffer from the normal low courage of orcs, and only have fight three, but other than that they are gold.
Half Troll of Far Harad - 5 Cheap, and if you can get them into combat they can do well with two strength five attacks. Their downside? Courage one, and the fact that any hero above captain level can destroy them pretty easily. Also like other trolls if they get transfixed they're in trouble. Just thought of something though, you can get mre of them than normal trolls, so if you get three or four of them and manage to get them all to combat they can't all be transfixed at the same time.
Mumakil - 4 Too easy to get to stampede, and thus the controlling player has to keep it far away from the board edge and from opponents archers, limiting the mumak a lot. The mumak is also pretty easy to pin with a bunch of mounted warriors and a hero or two.
Grimbold - 6 Not that great on his own, but if you have him then rohan dudes can be strength four. Still doesn't make up for the fact that the warriors around him are not that great though.
Mahud Beastmaster Chieftain - 5 You desperately need this guy for the mumak to give you that extra bit of a chance to pass the courage tests, but he is way more vulnerable to bowfire. The mumak ain't that good so this guy can't be either.

Iron Guard - 9, I love these guys, they also kill more than their points worth.
Citadel Guard - (not enough experience)
Guard of the Fountain Court - (not enough experience)
Warrior of Arnor - 9, these are one of my favourite units. Compared to a Minas Tirith Warrior with spear and shield, they exchange a Courage for a Fight (a good deal in my opinion) and they cost a point less! Brilliant!
Corsair of Umbar - 7
Morannon Orc - 9, for the same reasons as everyone else has said.
Half Troll - (not enough experience)
Mumakil - 7, the Mumak can be next to useless if you opponent has powerful Heroes or magic, but in the right circumstances it's easily the best unit in the game.
Grimbold - (not enough experience)\
Mahud Beastmaster Chieftain - 3, can be shot too easily.

Iron Guard - 9 - Hidden behind D7 until combat, then backed up by a banner in close combat and they are overwhelming.
Citadel Guard x
Guard of the Fountain Court x
Warrior of Arnor x
Corsair of Umbar - 7 - Quiet good up close but of course you have to stop them being shot to bits somehow.
Morannon Orc - 9 - The only down side is courage, which is extremely easy to overcome and thus are good for points cost.
Half Troll of Far Harad x
Mumakil - 5 - I have play against and seen it in action a lot. If an opponent doesn't know what they're doing the Mumakil will
just walk over them. However isn't not that difficult to kill. The new options for it have made it better.
Grimbold -6 - Makes Rohan ok, but they still can't spear support.
Mahud Beastmaster Chieftain - 5 - The extra might, fate and defence is good, but he is going to have a flashing 'shot here' sign on him
and will probably die to soon to be of use.

Man-at-Arms of Dol Amroth - (not enough experience)
Wose Warrior of Druadan - (not enough experience)
Knight of Minas Tirith - 9, the best cavalry in the game; cheap, durable, and hard-hitting.
Wood Elf Sentinel - (not enough experience)
Castellan of Dol Guldur - (not enough experience)
Easterling Kataphrak - 4, although they're tough, they aren't cheap enough to justify how weakly they hit.
Black Numenorean - (not enough experience)
Orc Tracker - (not enough experience)
Mouth of Sauron - 7, not much more expensive than a Captain, and with four spells.
King Theoden - 6, pretty much the same as lots of other "medium" Heroes.

Man-at-Arms Dol Amroth-N/A
Wose Warrior of Druadan-N/A
Knight of Minas Tirith-N/A
Wood Elf Sentinel-7 these guys are excellent in the right situation but they can be killed far too easily considering their points' cost so you have to be careful with them
Castellan of Dol Guldur-N/A
Easterling Kataphrak-N/A
Black Numenorean-N/A
Orc Tracker-7 good, cheap, bowmen but are mass murdered by elves
Mouth of Sauron-7 Mix of a captain and a spell caster but lacks might
King Theoden-N/A

Man-at-Arms Dol Amroth - 5 It can be helpful to have pikes, but I just overall don't really like these guys. I don't know why, not a solid reason, they just don't seem to be that great. It also doesn't help that they are in an army that's mostly metal, and are metal themselves.
Wose Warrior of Druadan 7 - A very good bargain if you are going against orcs, uruk-hai, or goblins. Very cheap for all the special rules, and elven cloaks on all of them :!:
Knight of Minas Tirith - 6 A decent mounted warrior. They lack fight four, but have defence six and lances.
Wood Elf Sentinel 6 - They can make a big difference, or do nothing at all. Eldamir madrigal is the best spell, and can really be helpful to keep a troll out of combat, or move it into a bad combat (for it) :) . They are just as fragile as wood elves but come with elven cloaks which helps, they also have two wounds which is really helpful in keeping them alive.
Castellan of Dol Guldur - 4 Terror helps them keep that precious will by letting them get charged less. But these guys still cost 65 points for no might, a hero you will have to take courage tests with once your broken, no stand fast, and he can only fight a max of 12 times.
Easterling Kataphrakt 3 - Heavily armoured horses, but only fight three and don't get lances. They also come from a list with few options, which is why they are so much worse than MT knights.
Black Numenorean 6 - Defence six and they cause terror. Can be good backed up by orcs with spears, but against elves the whole terror thing isn't going to do much.
Orc Tracker 7 - The best orc shooters. They do have defence three though so they get ripped apart by elvish and dwarf bows. Moria goblin prowlers with bow are better. (though the extra movement of the trackers can be helpful)
Mouth of Sauron 6.5 - A captain with a bit of magic. I think this guy is really overlooked a lot. He can give a bit of magic support, and won't shy away from combat and dissolve like wraiths will.
King Theoden 5 - Zero will? He will be bait for wraiths very quickly. Overall not very good, and he's with rohan so......

Black Numenorean - 7.5 - Good fight, defence and better courage than other evil warriors plus terror.
(7.5 because IMHO they are a bit better than Minis tirith warrior and a bit worse than Dwarf warrior)

Orc Tracker - 6 - Cheap and better at shooting than ordinary orcs, but S3 causes them to die very quickly and orc bows lack range.

Mouth of Sauron - 7 - Good in <500 point games as he is cheap, but with combat and magic abilities.

King Theoden - 3 - Many factions have captains that are better than or as good as Theoden...

There's been 5 ratings for ages now. Is it going to be updated? Otherwise I'll happily take over.

Ok, I'll try and get the average scores up. Okay, ratings now are:

Dwarf ranger
Mahud Warrior
Eomer
Moria Goblin Prowler
Morgul stalker
Khamul the Easterling
Giant spider
Isildur
Numenorean warrior
The Balrog

Dwarf ranger - 6 - Fairly good, but I prefer Dwarf Warriors.
Mahud Warrior - 9 - One of the best troops in the game. Only downside is Courage 1, which isn't a major issue and is easily compensated by their low cost and two attacks.
Eomer - 6 - There's nothing exceptionally good or bad about Eomer, he's a very average Hero. Overall a solid choice.
Moria Goblin Prowler - 8 - We'd see whole armies of these if you could get them in plastic.
Morgul stalker - (not enough experience)
Khamul the Easterling - 3 - His greatest strength is his combat skills, but he still isn't that great at it. But my biggest problem with him is that his spells are all harder to cast. Still, if you want a fighty Wraith he might work.
Giant spider - (not enough experience)
Isildur - 9 - I feel he's slightly underpriced. He's got three attacks and wounds, and has Fight 6, making him very effect in combat. He's also pretty cheap as well. One Will does make him vulnerable to Magic, but not an awful lot more than more uber-Heroes.
Numenorean warrior - 5 - Ok, but a Warrior of Minas Tirith is a better option in my opinion.
The Balrog - 1 - 400pts for a model that will spend most of the game fighting one or two models a turn?

Iron Guard - 8
Khazad Guard - 8
Uruk-hai Warrior - 7
Moria Goblin Warrior - 7
Dwarf Warrior - 7
Strider Aragorn - 5
Cave Troll - 6
Saruman - 7 (bad) 8 (good)
Gandalf the Grey - 7
Warrior of the Dead - 3

The ratings above are the only ones that I had experience with.

Is it me or does the OR Community think that almost every model is better than average? I thought 5 would be average, but people seem to be throwing 8s and 9s to anything that they might 'like' but is not necessarily any good (come on, overpointed D5 Mahud Warrior a 9? Knight of Minas Tirith a 9? Morannon Orc a 9? Iron Guard a 9? Mumak a 9? What's all that based on?). Not that I care but I wouldn't tell anyone looking for a fair assessment to visit this thread. The ratings clearly don't show the actual usefulness of great majority of those models.

I guess the average is just considered to be higher as people are more generous than pesimistic. Also, not many useless models have come up probably because no-one really uses them and no-one really wants to. I guess the average is around 7, don't ask me why.

Hey Bm, I respect you and know you are a very good player, but I have a couple of things to say. I thought that I was giving good ratings, but looking back at my second last post I definitely wasn't for that one, I overrated almost everything (esp. iron guard. they should be more of a 5.5). Anyways, you mainly play competetively at the GT's, I don't think a whole lot of us here do. So this might be more viewed as a list for 'freindly' games, not competetive games.

I was just looking at the overall rankings yesterday and thinking that lots of the models were overrated too. I think part of the problem is that in competettive tournaments what's good is constantly changing. If it's morannon w/ SL and SQ, one year, then the next year good brings lists to counter that, and evil should bring lists to counter goods new lists and drop morannon/SL/SQ.

But, in friendly games it's not like that as you normally have your 3 or whatever factions that you have and that you play with. You might try out slightly different lists, but overall you have your couple of set-ups that you like and use, even if they're not uber competetive.

I agree that this rating of units isn't very good for competetive play, but then again a list of competetive units from two years ago will probably be different than next years list.
I don't think there's much you can do as if you have this open to the public. There will always be those over-eager new players who love there new awesome mumak, and rate it as 10, even if it should be more like a 4. And overall I think that some unit's have a lot of leeway, some people have played with them a lot and can use them really well, and some units just plain 'ole suck and there's no way of getting around it.

Good Saruman comes to mind, he's one, if not the best, unit in the game, but if you've never used magic before he's going to be a big 100+ point waste. So he might be the best, but if you don't use him properly he was a waste and a bunch of troops could have been more helpful. You need to know how to use your warriors, as well as have a good selection of the right warriors.
