These "Citadel Finecast Miniatures"...are they the same old sculpts of the original metal figures?

yup! The sculpts are the exact same but the only difference is the material the model is made from.

thanks for calling me a idiot, opinionated guy I've never met. Thanks for that. You're the coolest person ever. So, if I carry on buying GW, I'm aboslutely nothing like you in any way? I'd gladly tell people that.

@azreal- that kind of language is not acceptable in these forums, as a member of this community the last thing I want to see is people using those type of words and having that type of attitude here. I recognize your opinion and it is perfectly fine to sound your voice here, but DO not use that kind of language here.

This is a well known forum for keeping its serenity and having a good attitude.

Let's try to keep it that way.

I have no idea why GW intend a price increase on top of changing to a cheaper method of manufacturing.

But it behooves GW to make a public statement of some sort because it will be natural for consumers to think this is nothing more than gouging.

I am not saying that their statement would be believable or quell all resentment, but they really should do their best to put a PR spin on this because even the 'rabid fanboys' are raising their eyebrows and backpeddling on their previous defense of GW.

And when it is so obvious that even your staunchest supporters who wear rose colored glasses are questioning the move, then it should be apparent that some damage control is in order.

The public good will that GW enjoys lessens every year. Soon they will not be able to rely on their consumers to be so 'price inflexible' (to use their terminology) and continue to patronize their business.

I've been a customer for 10 years, essentially since I have had money that was truly my own, and have spent a lot on GW products. More recently I've been scaling back drastically on my purchases, and now it looks like I'll be getting next to nothing from GW directly or for their prices. The Finecast stuff doesn't appeal to me in the least, especially considering that there are plenty of what few metals I'm still after up for sale on the secondary market.

If there's anything that bothers me more than the pricing, it's the "secrecy." Even with the web abuzz with speculation as to what the recent shortage of blisters meant, GW kept silent on the true cause. If the Finecast range is going to be ready for sale before the end of this month, you have to know that it's been in the planning stages for quite some time...

As always, because they can.

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

It has been a long time since GW was interested in gamers, as opposed to hooking kids being bankrolled by their parents. They have shareholders to keep happy, that doesn't extend to customers.

Every time they hike the prices I considering giving up on GW, an affair of some 20 years... Still, I go back. However, I've managed to persuade a few local gamers that there is a hobby outside of GW, so have made inroads into promoting the neglected specialist games (using alt. miniatures), Kings of War, WARMACHINE and Flames of War.

At Games Day I was all over Warhammer Forge, Chaos being my greatest love in WHFB and 40K, but the thought of paying £16 for 3 Chaos Dwarf Command, when I can pick up a unit of 20 Abyssal Dwarfs from Mantic for under £20 pretty much killed any enthusiasm I had for an all resin Chaos army.

I'd suggest having a good look around the internet, there are many, many suppliers offering minis that are perfect for LotR that aren't GW. It's only an issue if you play in GW stores, which really isn't a concern for me now.

Are there any brands that you can suggest that you know of, and is at the Lotr scale and not the larger warhammer one?

EDIT: Just found an amazing thread on warseer.com: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237097

Here is their first announcement regarding the resin. It's too bad that they are going to be lighter, because I liked it that my Heroes and important models were heavier then my normal infantry :(

Ok, neat. It could be that my eyes deceive me, but does that Gandalf look damn near identical in quality to the old one? I mean, yeah, it's a lot better than I could paint but this 'Eavy Metal version looks just like the 'EM painted version of the metal model...

If you enlarge the unpainted pick, and you look close, very close, you see a little bit of difference.

Ah, did NOT know that. I guess we'll have to wait and see then, but I honestly don't see myself getting many Finecast miniatures, if any at all.

Yeah. I know. I have been in this game for quite awhile too. It is just a sad sad fact of being a GW consumer. :(

RE: suggestions in using different companies miniatures:

I have been doing that since day one with LotR. Tons of great proxy options out there.
Sadly, unlike WHFB and 40K, it is harder to find good proxies for certain models and ironically it is sometimes cheaper to choose the GW option than an unofficial source.

LotR/WotR is my last bastion and connection with GW after long ago dropping their other lines that are still being supported. I wish it could have been made by someone else.
