One thing I think his rule is a bit stupid on, if I remember correctly is that it says if he's behind an enemy he limits their ability to ATD. That doesn't make any sense. "The WK is behind us!!! Slow down everyone!" I think it should read "if the WK is in FRONT of an enemy model then...". In this respect, same thing. Make a line across the front of the model's base. If the WK is in front of that line (the model is moving toward the WK) then they are impacted. After all, the whole concept should be that no one wants to get any closer to him than needed, and not too fast at that.

I couldn't agree more with this. I always wondered why the Witch-King had to be behind enemy troops to make them go 'slower', you'd think they'd go faster when trying to 'get away' from him. Logic would suggest if he was in front them then they would be reluctant to ATD towards him, don't you think?

I agree also, but I think GW were going along the lines of as in the Pellenor Fields where his presence caused men to literally freeze and hide in sheer terror.

Good point, but then in that case, then why not simply make it an 'area effect' - friendly or enemy troops will be affected by his proximity, not position, say maybe within 24"?

Now I'm not saying the ability is useless. I'd be trying to make good use of it if I had it. However, it isn't exactly a Wraith ability that people are running out to include in all their armies! :)

I totaly agree. I play a mordor army and I have stopped playing the witch king. His special rule is pretty weak when compared to that of khamul or the betrayer and to have to spend extra points for him just seems like a waste to me. Personaly I think it is a pretty weak ability for saurons right hand man.

I dont know about that.

I think he would be thrilled with the popularity the movies and games have had if he was.

be interesting to see what his interpretations of trolls and such would be though.

On the GW sight, they are quoted as desribing the Witch-king's "his special rules in War of the Ring are undeniably powerful."

They tend to say that about everything. Because it sells more units.

Failing that, they tell you how awesome the newest release is, and what models you really should buy for your army to deal with it. For an example, see Necrosphinx.

I never actually thought that it would be powerful, but the only wraiths I've used are the Betrayer, the Shadow Lord and the Dwimmerlaik.
