If it wasn't for MacGothmog, I would've voted for Ritcherd for his use of highlights on the leather tunic and cape. But I find that MacGothmog is the only one that captures a resemblance to Viggo Mortensen's actual likeness. It's too damn good, on a whole nother level amongst many greatly painted sculpts. So good that I will just flat out ignore MacGothmog's next few entries just to give the competition a chance! lol.

Also I remember Ares B and a few others having more angles than just one. The sword is covering Aragorn's face on Ares B's model, like Aragorn is camera shy, lol. Not that I want to put blame on you LotrCrown since you have to upload 15 entries, a hell of a lot.

Hard choice this time, especially since many of the models are painted around the same skills-level, which makes the decision harder.

MacGothmog's really stands out here, but I'm already used to his incredible talents and I wasn't surprised anymore (still, the face is absolutely art!) :P

So, after a hard decision, I went for Edge's Aragorn. I really like the way he stands out on the display-base, bearing the extra banner. Although the picture isn't the best quality (little blurred on top), I can see the highlights match very well, not too harsh neither too blackened. And I have to mention that the sword looks just awesome!

Many other great entries though with many great aspects and little eyecatchers that make voting hard!
I would like to thank all for taking part and would even more encourage everyone to take part in the current and upcoming challenges! Try to paint your best model, if you beat your own skills every month, you always win for yourself, and some day your skills will stand out above many others!
I would also like to encourage the 5 minutes extra work on the bases, painting the sand/gravel and highlighting it to a natural look, finish off by adding a bit of extra (not too much) vegetation such as grass or flock, just to break the plain gravel-colors with a nice contrasting green or something... Further basing-details are always welcome of course :-)

Thanks all and good luck in the future!

I decided to go for Erunion's version because of the amazing cloak and face. I just found that MacGothmog's was just too lifelike and it creeps me out a bit, but it is fantastic skilled work nonetheless,

Cyndra the Grey

I really like MacG's Aragorn and edge67's crazy base, but my vote goes to Cyndra the Grey this month. Following his progress as a painter during the past year has been great and this Aragorn is in completely different series than the early minis. Great job! And congrats to all who managed to get their entries done in time. Really nice paint jobs here!

As I said before, there's far too many entrants to make an easy decision, they're all so goood. However 1st place has to go with MacGothmog, Edge67 or Erunion. I won't yet reveal which one I've voted for.

I'm debating between MacG's and Bilbo's. They are by far better then mine will be. I like the dark, hunter feel from Bilbo's but MacG's makes the model look like it came from the movies. I'll vote for Bilbo's since I lean more on the Dark Side of things. Wait... That sounds like Star Wars. :? Umm..... Anyway.... voting. Yeah.

So many good entries..... I had to go for something other than Miguel's, even though his is stunning. I wish I could paint something even close to that. I decided to go with Cyndra the Grey's, even though you didn't paint the eye's the face looks great. It looks like the brown wash on the top hand on his sword got a little out of hand, but that actually makes it look like his scraped up/bloody hand he has when he takes back the evenstar from legolas at helms deep. I was also thinking of going for Erunion's, but was swayed over to Cyndra's by the (slightly) better photo, so good job to Erunion as well.

All in all good job, Miguel, you would get my vote if it was based purely on the paint job, but I like to base it on improvement too, and as someone else said, Cyndra has improved quite a bit. :)

What a great comp. It was awesome to have so many entries, especially since the last few painting challenges have had only a few. Miguel did an amazing job - something to aspire to - and he definitely deserves the run away win. However, I thought all the entries were brilliant (except mine of course!). I loved the awesome detail work done by Sacrilege and Ares B, the dark broodiness of Bilbo's (and great work with the mud!), Erunion's fantastic highlighting on the cloak and everyone elses! In the end I gave my vote to Wah Wing. I like the subtle highlighting with the different shades of brown on the tunic, pants and boots. It gives the mini a real weathered look, which suits a ranger from the north. The single photo doesn't do it justice.

Buckland Brewer - thanks very much for your kind comments. I'm humbled.

On to Lurtz!!!! :D

Actually, I liked your sword very much Edge compared to everyone else's work. We need Macgothmog to comment and tell us how he's done it, so that we can put up a fair fight the next time he's in competition. I think Macgothmog skills is the pinnacle one can reach in painting, because I don't see anyway how one can improve upon that. Unless you go a completely different direction and become a Picasso like garmenhord. :D

Also I just noticed the detail on Legolas31's Aragorn's ring. He added a small dot of green as the emeralds, lol awesome.

And for future reference on taking different camera angles, you guys should do what I and garmehord have done, which is crop & edit all different angles into one jpeg file. So that way it's a lot easier for Red Corsairs or LotrCrown to upload.

I have to say I'm still pleased with my effort despite the lack of peer recognition (it was the first miniature I've painted in 25 years). I wished I had used a white undercoat though (still you live and learn).

Wow, lots of good entries, it was tough between mac's and edge's but the mud-stains and patchwork on aragorn's cloak is PERFECT. Well done to everyone. 8)
