Title says it all. I've never used F value for ANYTHING to be honest. We just reroll tied combat rolls. Is that the only thing it changes?

I thought the F value was used when combat rolls are tied. The unit with the highest F value wins, and if they both have the same F value, then a dice is rolled and on a 1,2,3 Evil wins, and on a 4,5,6 Good wins??

Yes that is what it's for but my sister and I have never used it, it seems strange to me that there would be a value that is there JUST to be a tie breaker.

Well it is there as lets say an Orc and an Elf are having a fight, the Elf should naturally have the upper hand due to years of practice and natural agility, hence why Fight exists. It is to give them that little extra edge based on the models potential extra experience. At the end of the day it is just put there to solve issues that may arise, like why Aragorn has an equal chance as a Goblin to win a fight, the Fight value is there so he just has that edge.

Although it's probably one of the "lesser" of the SBG stats, until you play several games at the 300 - 500 point level you may not realize just how often it does come into play. Getting more dice to roll (more models, support, or models with multiple attacks) is far more effective to win the Fight roll, but believe it or not this really does come up enough to justify it.

It's one of those "big deals" that actually is, but doesn't seem like it could be.

Yes, I was surprised at how often it came into play.

I want to say that at some point in the history of the rules, you added your Fight value to hte die roll, but I can't be sure if that was from LoTR or from another GW system (not WHFB or 40k)...

I remember hearing about that back in the preliminary rules as they released SBG (back when i was a lot younger and played 3rd Ed 40k) but they found it gave the Elves and Heroes like Aragorn a huge advantage compared to the way they worked it in the end.

Aragorn will rarely ever lose a fight against even a horde of lesser fight value troops. With a D6, there is a 1 in 3 chance of rolling a 5 or 6. He rolls three dice (more with support), so statistically, at least one 5 or 6 will come up. On a 6, he wins, period. On a 5, he modifies it with a Might point, and wins, period. I saw four Fellowship heros wipe out 30 Haradrim. "They never lost a fight!!" said the astonished loser. I know bad rolls happen. I had no idea how important FV is. A recent game gave me half a dozen or more fights won on FV alone. Adds up.

Pft Aragorn, Transfix and swamp him, where is his 3 Attacks and Fight 6 now eh? lol

But yes it does lead to automatic wins, when i used to play ages ago i always rolled the highest Fight value attacks first, if a 6 came up then that was it, that model won it. Saved on unecessary dice rolls.

That remind me of when I was using Haradrim against Eastyerlings, it looked like a night mare with their hight defence but my front rank were setrpent guards and because almost every fight somewho ended as a tie, I won most fight because of their high fight.

One of the big reasons i used to hate Elves and Elf heroes, all it took was those sixes in combat and i kept getting beaten up by them, all i could hope to do was swamp them as much as i could and bring down some S4 Uruks on them.

To exclude the Fight value does detract a bit of power that high skill models have though.

:? This is why I have really come to enjoy and respect my Wood Elf army in SBG. That D3 only matters if your enemy wins a fight roll. 8) Wood Elf spears really come into power here. If I have a WE alone I just "shield" with his spear. With 2 dice there's a good chance he'll survive that turn. If I have 2 or more models on an enemy then I roll to attack instead. I have little problem taking out Uruk Hai and Morannon armies with "soft" Wood Elves if played well greatly thanks to their high Fight value.

This is also why I had such a bad awakening in WotR with simultaneous hits. Woops. Only took one game to realize the difference THERE!

I could be wrong, but doesn't the rules state that in a multiple combat fight you use your highest fight period? So with aragorn and 2 rohan soldiers, all roll F6 dice?

No, as when Transfixed a model counts as being Fight 1 so the Rohan Warriors Fight of 3 would be used. Seems GW forsaw this happening lol.

I have to say I have the same opinion as most in here who say Fight value seems not important and insignificant but they do make a difference. Ties do happen a lot in roll offs. At firtst I thought the F value would make more sense if it was added to the dice roll, but as mentioned that would create a huge advantage to the elites and heroes.

Also to me fight value plays an important role especially with the heroes...
