I would not mix the gloss with your paint. Try painting a layer with normal colors. When it is dry paint a layer of gloss on top. It is possible to paint another layer of paint on top and gloss it again for a deeper effect.
Image
I took this photo at a convention. The manufacturer of the river did something like that with the ice.He painted ice on top of the gloss resin and then added layers of ice between layers of gloss.
Image I painted the bottom and added Woodland Scenic Realistic Water. The still water works very well for small applications. The surface must be absolutely dry or it will cloud. It took the pool on the left 9 weeks to clear. It was because I did not wait for the painted surface to dry. The gloss trapped the moisture.Heat has effected several still water models too.I have never had a problem with WSRW but I do not like the product you melt on the stove.
Image Heat caused the trapped air bubble in this fountain. I will use WSRW for any thing that deep in the future. The small fountain and some of the wells are ok because they were thin. The only other caution, I can think of. is water based varnish can pick up color if water based paint is not dry. I have not had this problem but I do not use GW paints.
I hope this is helpful :!:
If anyone else has a suggestion feel free to join in :!:

Thank you for your help - the base is turning out well. I have painted a base colour onto the putty then varnished it, highlighted the dry varnish with watered down paint and then revarnished.... its not bad for a first attempt at water. I will post a pic in my WIP 2moro when it dries out a bit.

Thanks again!

I set the table over because the Hobbit fan Club was paying a holiday visit. I wanted a cave large enough for the D&D Red Dragon. I realized that six feet of the Lemax sections only had one side. I need more bark :o
I was going to put the cave in the center of the table and have the exit in the rear of the cave to the other table side. Well not this time  They won't care. There will be lots of stuff to play with and they won't notice.

Good way to involve the younger ones in gaming. Nice sword :-D. (I had to make choise - or buy sting or buy a carrying case... I bought the case because it would be usefull and not just decoration. Maybe i ll get one of those lotr weapons some day... :) I kinda like them )

Quick design of a gate with a mouth. I ll make another one tough. Something more in the style of that what i made b4. This one is not stone like enough.+wouldn't be good for a smooth surface to carve in :-D

Reading a thread like this one makes me feel incredibly guilty. You manage to work on so many great projects and over time the volume of available minis and terrain just grows and grows to epic proportions... I need to be cloned! Keep up the good work!

I purchased some more spiders and bats for Mirkwood and the upcoming Halloween game. The bats were $.29 each. I purchased 5 but should have purchased 12. I will go back tomorrow. I found some more plastic spiders 8 for a $1.00 and 50 small spiders for $1.49. I am going to use them in the web trees so I got 100 of the small and 16 of the large.

Image
I put the bats on flying stands and based them for WOTR.They would look better if they were all alike so I will get 7 more.
I am going to base the spider queen on the water cave blocks. I need to remove some flash I missed before I paint more details.

I do not have to worry about the kids breaking spider legs with the plastic Halloween spiders.

Image
The spider is balanced on the file. I may use the clear rod to make the spider look like it is jumping.
What size is the spider queen's base? I don't want to use the wrong size.

Very nice queen, she should be on a 60mm base, and nice cheap spider army looks fun.
