The work in this post is not my own it is actually my eldest son Jude's. He is 10 years old and ask me to post some of his Fortress of Isengard WIP on the forum. Unfortunately I had to use a flash so the pictures are not a good as they could be.

Some very smooth paintwork on those and very neat as well. A promising start methinks given that when I started aged 19 my first figures were not than neat! Just nead a few white hands on the Beserkers and the jobs a good one! Well done

Thanks for the kind words Morgoths_crown. I've only got a limited range of paints at the moment but I have just ordered a Vallejo Game Color suitcase so when it arrives I'm sure that he will be keen to paint some white hands on them.

promising little painter u have there! The basic is painted very well. Some small touches and he can even upgrade it even more! Just a simple wash will help. (Good to make the muscles more visible) U can darken up the armour with the wash to and paint with the metal again over the edges. Gives a great effect! Great work for a 10 year old :yay:

A wash over the skin (esp. on the 'zerkers) would really help create some definition. I like the armour. Overall good job, there's always room to improve, but good job.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think the flash on the camera has "washed out" the wash on the berserkers skin, the muscle definition is much better in person.

Good job! Put some matt varnish on it, and that will be better.

Thanks for the tip. I think varnish may be a good idea from the perspective of just protecting the finish from being handled.

Can anyone recommend a varnish? GW or another manufacturer? Spray or brush on?

If you want a spray - Testors dullcote gets good recommendation (available from Macks Track), also a similar Tamiya product is available.
If you want brush on, I like the Vallejo.

I always buy varnish from an ordinary paint store. I also buy there my black and white basecoats.

I use Krylon Matte Finish over gloss. The gloss seals and protects the miniature better. It is over kill for plastic and tin but necessary with lead and some resin.I like a a satin look but it makes photos difficult. The Testors dullcote is considered the best by many display Painters.

Jude and I are going to be posting pictures of our progress for the Monsters painting challenge. So I'm reviving this thread with our proof pictures.

You guys would hate living out where I am then. I've killed spiders as big as the Giant Spiders (and had a little fun at my family's expense with the GS models). Most disturbing encounter...I opened my garage door, and I heard the thing hit the ground when it jumped/fell off the open door. Yeah, I had to take a courage test at -1 (harbinger of evil rule or something) to go fight it...but the spider was no match for the sledge-hammer I dropped on its head. :-X

As for the models, those 'zerkers and the Uruks are most excellent! I may have to send the rest of my unpainted isengard to have it done :)
