HI folks,

I thought I'd introduce myself. And get your advice!

My name is Curtis, i've been playing LOTR warhammer since March 2011. I first played in Aberdeen, bought some of the fighting Uruk-hai and kicked some Rohan butt. My second big battle, Saruman blasted mounted Gandalf, then the men of Gondor and Elves made the mistake of coming out of Helms deep and fighting my troops five or six at a time. They were cut down.

But more recently we got our annihilated by six awesome elves! (Galadriel, Celaborne, Elrond, Gil-gallad, armoured Glorfindel and Legolas). My last battle was War Of The RIng, with an ally, but the Army of the Dead laughed off my Berserkers and left us all dead!

I collect Isengard's Uruk-hai. So far I've got the following:

8 Berserkers
20 Fighting Uruk-hai
6 wargs and riders
Banner and leader
Saruman and Grima

and we just got Lurtz on eBay with money from my old DS games.

I am hoping to get Sharku and maybe some crossbowmen for my 11th birthday on Friday.

That's all.

I prefer playing Lord Of the Rings SBG. And I'd like to get around 750 points, but experiment with line-ups. Now, my friend gave me some scouts for my birthday . But I want to swap them for a badass Isengard troll. It just looks so cool, and I've seen people using them to massacre men.

But I don't really know.
Could YOU tell me what you think I should get? Please post photos of your own army if you could
because I would like to see how epic your army is.

Many thanks,

Curtis.
P.S image of my army below.
P.S.S I painted all my figures by MYSELF.

Thanks for looking!! :)

the want list is already great
another box of uruk-hai warriors would be good i think (At least for phalanxes)
if u want cheap units u could use orcs (replace one line of pikes by orc spearmen).
Isenguard troll is strong - killed him with boromir once tough (but boromir is of course very strong).

Very nice army... It's nice painted and has a strong structure...
A troll would be a pwoerful unit in your army... Taking one would help... 8)

I would keep the scouts. Sure, the troll is a heavy hitter, but it will also attract a LOT of attention - especially from bow-armed troops. 3 lucky shots and bye-bye troll. Just starting out, I would go with the scouts and get your numbers up. I only have a few images of things ATM, but since you asked:

Also, I have 2 Isengard trolls that I've had for well over a year now (maybe 2), and the closest they are to being built is having the package opened and the pieces inspected. I played in a tournament last year (over 20 people) with some really good players, using my Isengard, and going into the last game, I was in a tie for first. What came to haunt me in that last game, was my lack of numbers on the field. I simply did not have enough troops to take and hold objectives and still be able to fight my opponent's army. It was a close game at the end, but I could have won it with a few more troops.

For my Mordor army, I found it much more effective to have more troops than to have a troll, which is why I've long stopped using it. Yes, they are cool, look mean and impressive on the battlefield, but I would again recommend more troops - especially for someone just starting out.

BTW, your army is looking quite good, and welcome!

You could get a troll and keep the scouts, both have uses.

Nice paint jobs guys, and sweet terrain! Elland, what is the statue from? It doesn't look like the GW kits.

this is my opinion on trolls!! Hahaha :D

And I would get the Osgiliath Ruins over the Middle Earth ones, simply because they feel are much better ruins. They ar far more big and you can do loads more with them!

It doesn't sound that you are an over competetive player that has to have super-strong lists, so get a troll for fun and have fun games, its not all about winning at all costs.

Have both, Scouts and Troll, they have lots of uses and can compliment each other well, using the Orc Bows to take out enemy archers while the Troll goes on a rampage for example.

I agree that if you can hold on to both Scouts and Troll (even if it means waiting for the Troll) your SBG army will be more happy in the long run. The Trolls have a benefit of distracting bowfire from the Warg Riders (or else your enemy will be ignoring the Troll which can be just as good) and the one extra point of Defense the Isengard Troll has over the Mordor Trolls shouldn't be underestimated in many games. I've had mine really be a PITA to my opponent.

But as others have said if you don't have good numbers you're going to loose more games than not. All an enemy needs to do is get you to your breaking point, tie up your Hero so it can't call Stand Fast and watch your army fall apart in one or two turns. So Scouts (and even Orcs) to beef up your numbers should be more important early on than the Troll. At 750 points you could bring in the big beast and probably have very good luck. But at 500 and below I'd suggest keeping your numbers high as possible.

Thank you guys! And I really like your soldiers Elland,

I've decided I'll keep the scouts and look for an metal Isengard troll on eBay.(Please let me know if you ever see one).
Then they can go raiding together while my Wargs go and attack the other flank.

I've got some scenery - but we ate it ! :D

[this was my birthday cake!}

Thank you very much!!! :-D I'll update when I've painted some more troops.

Regarding trolls and bowfire, a troll should not be killed by bowfire, it is defence 8 and requires very high rolls to wound from bowfire. A dragon is defence 7 and alot of people take dragons without tough hide, these dragons are not killed by bowfire so i don't see why anyone thinks an isengard troll will be more likely to die from bowfire.

Depends on the player. My last opponent thought that and led his charge with his troll and I fully obliged him. It took 2 turns of concentrated bow and throwing spear fire from my men of rohan but it did fall. He was pleased that it soaked up 2 turns of missile fire, and I was pleased it died. Fair trade ;)
