I don't use first person as I want to tell the story from different people's perspectives, you can't hjave 4 or 5 different 'I' 's

Sure you can check out books like Faulkner's "As I lay Dying" or Russel Bank's "The Sweet Hereafter." The multiple first person perspective can be achieved by having each chapter take on a character (can even name the chapter after the character's name). It allows for multiple narrators and first person, which adds the complexity of the reliability and multiple perspectivism.

Hmmm, might annoy the reader, I would unless it was a different person for a whole book but since I haven't started the other book series I could try it, but I need the character profiles finished first.

I mix the character's story... For example you have one person writing the story and someone other writing events the other didn't know... 8)

For example person one write how he got to the town, then another person write what happened in the town ebfore the other person come, then when they meet someone leads the story...For example: And he got near me and I recognised him as an elf, brown his eyes and gold his hair holding a lantern in the darkness of night. And he asked "How are you here? A mere child should not be wandering in such places." :)

ust noticed this topic. Now my novel can be found in thousands of places. Sometimes a page or ten written down on paper, then another page or ten in a word doc. I ticked 'finished but not published', but I'm sure that when I now try to gather it, I'll change hundreds of things in the story. Happend before.
Now there are some questions I'd like to ask my fellow OR novelists.
1) Where and when do you get 'inspired' to write some pages for your novel ? Or do you just sit down and say: "Now I gonna wright something down!"
2) Is it visible you were inspired by lotr (I think we all were) ?
3) What was your main idea / character ?
4) What races does it include (uruks/wargs/halflings ?!)

No, I'm not some sort of intervieuwer who's gonna make money with this when you've published your books! :-)

K

1 I just sit down, say "Now I'm gonna write something down", surf to OR and forget about the novel :) .
2 If I ever publish it, I'll get copyright-sued. Sometimes I think of my City of Men as "Minas Tirith", because it's so alike and I don't really like my own name (which I subconciously stole from LOTR)
3 I was struck by the fact that in all fantasy books, the Good guys work together perfectly. So I set my mind on creating a book where they don't.
4 Most important: Elves(High and Lesser), Orcs (more like LOTR Uruks), Men (Scots-like Northmen, Men of Ered Luin (Minas Tirith), including a religious Order, and many Evil men), Dwarves and Mordians (quite like to WFB Skaven). Less important are Bogeys, Mermaids, Vampyres, Wizards (actually Men, but they live so isolated they are totally different).

Short summary: A Lesser Elf village gets raided by evil forces looking for a mysterious thing, and the messenger sent to ask for an explanation gets beheaded. The Elf King declares war, but they haven't fought for over 3000 years, so he sends the main character on a mission to conclude alliances and learn about drills, tactics etc. etc.
On his journey, the main character is hounded by 24 Orc Warlords in unquestionable service to the Dark Lord, supernaturally powerfull and absolutely ruthless. He then gets more and more caring about the war, and tries to unify the squabbling Free Peoples into fighting the Dark Lord as one, setting aside their differences.

Haven't decided whether he succeeds or fails yet...

It's probably pretty safe to assume most of you also have a FaceBook account. If so, I strongly recommend you Like CreateSpace:

http://www.facebook.com/CreateSpace

There is a full website for it that has a LOT of great resources but I have found their daily posts on FB to be a nice introduction. Some really useful information in small, digestible bites.

I presume that when you said you had a Dark Lord, you actually meant it and that you have followed all the criteria for a Dark Lord rather than just calling your lead bad guy a Dark Lord even when he isn't?

Then your answer is that you haven't folloed the proper criteria for a Dark Lord. Just in case you don't know what I mean, I will list all the criteria for a Dark Lord:

He/she must be evil
He/she must be in charge of a large number of (unwilling) servants
The evil he/she reeks affects the land as well as his subjects
Very powerful form of magic powers or power of a different name eg the Force
Diabolical force (more force than personality)
A huge army
Devil-like qualities (not required)
Personificatiopn of evil (not required)
People afraid to speak their name
Usually possess, control, obtain or make an object or objects which make him/her more powerful and/or harder to kill

Examples; Sauron, Morgoth, Voldemort (Harry Potter), the Sith Lords (STar Wars), Galbatorix (Inheritance Cycle), Dracula

You can have more than one Dark Lord as long as they're not at the same time. So good for you. :-D You have however just reminded me of the three Vampire Lords in the Warhammer Vampire Wars Trilogy as there was a differnt Vampire Count in each one and the second one was not as powerful as the first one or the third one (the second one didn't even have magic like the other two did).

I intebd to start writing my character profiles tomorrow for the protagonists and antagonists (and those in between) in my books.
