Quality painting my friend!! Quality. NMM is something I wish I could get my head around.... so far no luck just odd bits on shin guards etc which turned out ok. Tried a few swords but the least said about them the better. Look forward to more

Thanks. I've been practising a lot of painting with zenithal lighting and prelighting which I find helps with nmm to identify where to place the highlights.

Only a little painting since my last post. Thankfully I am free of social events this weekend!

The NMM looks great as always and they look really cool as a group. You'll have one hell of an elf army once they're all painted to that standard!

Really nice paint job. Celeborne, Glorfindel and Erestor are some of my favourite characters, and you have done an amazing job on them. :yay:

Great painting. Makes me want to throw my poorly painted High Elves in the bin though. :-X

Hi guys. Since my last update I have had a change of heart on how to paint my elves. The original scheme looked very flat, was difficult to replicate consistently and I felt wasn't in keeping with my usual style. And so they sat on my desk for a couple of months whilst I thought about how best to paint the 200+ miniatures I have before The Hobbit comes out. Finally, I got into the required mindset for painting an army.

Here are the new elves that I started yesterday (I'm hoping to have all 40 done by next weekend):

They are very rough in comparison to what I can normally achieve but the plan is to have all of them at this standard and then touch up the details.

I like this new look. The blades could use a brighter metal to them in my opinion.

Eh? I thought this was the DMS thread at first, but it's the MMS thread, are you guys related? :P

I like the new look better, they do look more interesting, the subtle colours remind me of the grainy images in the Prologue of the FOTR movie.

I'm concentrating mostly on the colour harmony trying to achieve a look rather than technique of late.

Fantastic work, as always! Your painting is inspirational.

I'd say that your color harmonization is coming along very well.

Not a knock in any way, but something about Cirdan's face reminds me of Tony Shaloub.

That looks like great work, but the pics are a little dark for the colours to stand out.

Thanks for all the comments. I have been trying new approaches to painting skin and so I'm glad for the positive feedback.

I've done a little more work tonight on Cirdan adding some shadows. I will take a better photo when he's finished; the colours aren't so desaturated in real life.
