I thought that I would show some pictures of my converted Dunlending Cavalry.

I have a large army of over 100 Dunlending and wanted to add some cavlary, but GW didn't make any, and there is no telling when, or if, they will make some.

To do this project I took some Old Glory 28mm Saxon Thegn Cavalry and added fur to them. I am not a professional, but took my best shot at doing some sculpting in green stuff. The fur may not be professional, but it is effective enough. I also added a few plastic cap bits and a standard-bearer. Below are some photos of the finished conversions:

I then sent them to Dragon Painting Services, who does most of my commission work. They are now complete and here are a few photos of them:

Hope they meet your approval,

As above, those ARE awesome conversions, don't think they'd be clever enough to use lances but your work is spectacular. Well done 8)

It's called Green Stuff and you can buy it from Games Workshop.

The "Green Stuff" that I use is called Kneadatite and I got it from Brookhurst Hobbies. You get a big roll of it that is 1" x 36" for $10.00, but that was several years ago (it has lasted this long). The GW stuff is too expensive for what you get.

If Javelins aren't throwing weapons then excellent. If they are, well, the models look awesme anyway :)

other than the javelins, especially the ones that are holdingtheir shield and the javelin in the same hand, they look fantastic.

Cool looking guys, and good idea. Can we have pictures of the rest of the army? 100 dunlendings would look prettying awesome imho. :)
Btw, are they all those hiper-expensive GW metal figures? :o

Very nice army. I tried to do the same but I followed a cheaper idea. I converted Riders and Warriors of Rohan. If someone wants can check them here:

Excellent painting and conversions. I've always loved the foot dunlending warriors and these will look perfect along side them. Brilliant work killerkatanas.

The conversions are excellent. I wonder if a little more 'savage' elements could be used in a similar enterprise - I am thinking about a combination of Gripping Beast Saxons and Vikings - they are mostly plastic, and then mix and match bits with Riders of Rohan, and blend these bits with green stuff or similar where necessary. I don't recall Dunlending cavalry being mentioned but that does not rule out the possibility that they had some forces, though not in the numbers available to the Rohirrim.

They were mentioned in the Battles of the Fords of Isen I think.

Fantastic conversions, they are very inspirational!
