Agreed- of course they care. Remember the Hobbit film was originally aimed for a 2011 release so that probably threw things off a bit.
I wouldn't be surprised if something happens for LotR very, very soon.

I can't say how GW as a company feel about LotR/The Hobbit, but I know there are people at GW who care very deeply.
