...when you think that people are just copying LotR when they have orcs and such in their fantasy worlds (ie Eragon, Warhammer, etc).

The Inheritance Series has Urgals which are distinctly different from Orcs in more ways than one. Agree on the Warhammer Orcs though.

When you understand WHY so many books, games and movies use Lord of the Rings as a source for ideas and concepts.

I know they aren't orcs, but they are obviously based off of them, or at least the film version of Uruk-hai.

Hmmm I see your point but I find they are far too different to say they are based off of Uruk-hai or Orcs. First off, they are natural creature while orcs and uruk-hai are creations of Morgoth/Sauron/Saruman. Second, they have a distinct culture beyond the survival-of-the-fittest that most evil races (particularly Orcs and Uruks) have. Third, they become "good guys" for over half the series and are not forced to extinction or mostly wiped out. However, I have the feeling we're going to agree to disagree, so I will agree that the Urgals/Kull were obviously meant to take the place of Orcs/Uruks in terms of concept and role (at least initially) but are not as a direct copy from the Lord of the Rings.

Now back on topic.

When you call a girl an "elf" and mean it as a compliment but you call your guy friends "elves" to irritate them.

AH, glad someone mentioned that actually because...

When you like other books eg the Inheritance Cycle because they remind you of LOTR.

Urgals are based on Orcs, Paolini said as much himslef they just turn out to be less evil, because they are needed to not be evil, for the whole Alliance of Everyone against Galbatorix.

In Tolkein mythos, "Dwimmerlaik" is the Rohirric word for evil spirits, it roughly translates as "restless spirits", the Rohirrim used the word "Dwimmerlaik to describe the Dead of Dunharrow, Barrow-wights, Spirits of the Dead Marshes, Ringwraiths (Also elves and ents because they are veryy supersticious.

I think they only used Dwimmer as that, Laik being added on for when Eowyn talks to the WK.

You: No, just let your archers fire at some sappers next to him, and hope you get some good dice rolls...i mean...Gandalf would have killed him

I would elaborate on something about the race of Hardarim for LOTR, but I will not say it, for I would get into trouble

(and no they didn't see: Characters from Tolkien by David Day)

What, that they're Arabs?

Well, they used Dwimmorberg for the Haunted Mountain, so Dwimmor/dwimmer obviously mean haunted. I didn't know that they used Dwimmerlaik for other stuff.
