Today I'm restarting the hobby.

WARNING, first post is text heavy!

After more then a year not painting LOTR miniatures and gaming I have decided that I have to restart.
My health didn't improve the last year, it deteriorated.
Gaming stopped completely and I stopped painting LOTR Miniatures. (I did paint some WHF miniatures and a lot of 40k [Imperial guard and Blood Angels])

Anyways, I can ramble and ramble about last year, but the point is, as you can guess, I'm restarting the LOTR hobby.
This means, stripping paint, painting miniatures, convert, buying, selling etc. etc.

This WIP is meant to show you my progress, and to keep me motivated to continue the hobby (at least the painting and modelling part, not the gaming part :( )

I decided to sell my Moria army, 100+ goblins, balrog, 3 trolls, and much more.

My Gondor army will get a reboot, repaint my warriors of Minas-Tirith, my knights of Dol-Amroth and the rest.
I wanted to type everything I have.. but that took so much time.. and I won't bore you with all the miniatures I have.

And to keep a very long story short, My first army to be repainted are the Uruk-Hai, Last Alliance and the Grey Company.
My Uruk army is not that big, 24 scouts, 30 armoured warriors, couple of heroes/captains, siege crew/engineers and uruks with crossbow.
Oh.. and not to forget my Wargs, 18 Wargs with riders, and 12 wild wargs with a Chieftain.

The second army, my Grey Company exists out of, yes you have guessed right, rangers :)
This army isn't that big also; 6 Rangers of the North (dunedain), 10 Rangers of Gondor, 16 rangers with spear, 16 rangers with bow, 16 rangers with swords.
The heroes for this army are; Elladan and Elrohir, Halbarad (with flag) and Aragorn.
Also, not to forget, 20 warriors of the dead and the king of the dead.

The third army to reboot, is smaller than the rest, A small force of the Last Alliance.
12 Elves with bow, 12 elves with swords, 12 elves with spear and shield.
Elrond, Glorfndel, Cirdan and Erestor.
8 Men of numenor, 1 men of numenor with spear and 1 with bow.
And Elendil.

That should keep me occupied for the coming months, after these 3 armies my Easterlings are next, then my Khandish warriors and last but not least my Gondor army, which is really huge.

As I said, it is text heavy and I don't have any pictures for now.
As soon as I have stripped the miniatures of paint I will update.

Also I want to expand my painting skills, and I want to continue with blending. (tips and tricks are very welcome!)

My next update will be in a few days, when, as I said, the miniatures are stripped of paint.
For those interested, I'm stripping them with Dettol.
It works great!

Thank you :)

I decided to start painting, I don't have the patience to wait before the dettol removed the paint.
So I'm painting my wargs for now.
I have around the 24 wargs, and 12 warg riders if I'm right.

I don't want my wargs to be the same colour, right now I'm painting a batch of 6 wargs brown.
After that some wargs white and black.
I hope to make some pictures by tomorrow, but the fur is done for the biggest part.

You're in the same boat as me. I'm dettoling my whole collection after a break too.

Looking forward to see how you get on. Might be worth doing some before and after photos before you use the dettol to track your progress with the painting.

Good idea, right now, there are a lot of miniatures in the dettol, but when I do a new batch I'll make some pictures.

I'm selling my Moria stuff, the only Moria thing I keep are the wargs.

Still no pictures..
Dog takes to much time, and the light here is bad. (and it snows..)

But finished 12 wargs, in brown.

There are 5 more coming up in black/grey and another 5 in brown.
After that 8 more to go and the chieftain.
So I'm steadily making progress.

Also I'm thinking of buying the Isengard troll.
It looks nice (and I have a 10% discount..)

Drastic change, sold most of my Isengard and bought a mumakil.
I should have it today or tommorrow.
I have paintend some rangers of the north and I'm experimenting with NMM.

I'm thinking of doing my high elves in NMM gold.
More on that later..

Finally some pictures, not the wargs, somehow my camera refuses to make a picture from them.
Right now there are 12 brown wargs done and 6 black wargs almost done.
That leaves 12 more to paint and 12 riders.
But the wargs must come later, because I have a new project.
More about that later...

While I was painting the wargs, I also painted some Rangers of the North.
The first 3 are ready, and 3 more are primed and ready to paint.

And somehow.. I screw it up again.
The pictures aren't the right size.
The first picture, the ranger with the spear has a tree of Gondor on his vambraces.
I'll try to fix it.

As I said I tried some NMM.
The metal parts (chainmail, sword etc.) are in NMM.
I forgot to make a photo of the cape, but that will come later.
The base isn't ready either.. obvious.

When I receive my paint I will try to paint my high elves NMM - gold.

Just received some more miniatures (elves and haradrim), and most of them will go in the Dettol.
Stripping paint isn't that fun any more, the awful smell, my hands blistered thanks to the dettol.
Stripping metal miniatures is easy, but plastic miniatures are harder.

My newest challenge is the Mumak, some haradrim riders and a bunch of haradrim on foot.
I will start with the Mumak, he is primed and ready for painting.
But, where to start? I figured that I will be doing the howdah when I painted the Mumak itself.
I also will be adding some "leather" and some ropes, and some tusk weapons.

I was thinking about the following paints for the Mumak:
* chaos black prime (done already)
* Adeptus Battlegrey, an even coat.
* drybrush Codex grey
* lighter drybrush fortress grey
* wash Badab Black/Devlan Mud.
* another drybrush fortress grey.

And last, I can't find any plasticard in the stores around here.
I do have some old cards (insurance cards, credit cards).
Is it the same as plasticard used by hobbyists?

Thank you very much!
Currently I'm busy with the mumak base and couple of High elves with spear in NMM.

I'll try to make some pictures by tomorrow.
As part of my restart.. I'm thinking about repainting all of my Easterlings, but I don't want to strip the paint from all of them.
Currently I have 20 Easterlings in Gold and 20 in Silver, both with red clothes.
I want to do everything in silver (or metal, depends how you call it).
I have to figure it out for myself (and hints are appreciated ;) ) how to do repaint the gold in silver.
Not to forget, I also have 10 unpainted metal Easterling Kataphrakts.
Besides that I am thinking about buying a box or two of the new Kataphrakts... So much to buy and paint so little money and time!

And around the 20 Khandish warriors.. pfff such a big backlog.
Oh yeah and the rest of my high elves, my mumakil and all the haradrim...
Talking about being busy!

A new update on my work!

The pas few weeks I have been very busy with my Mumak.
Note all these photo's are WIP so it's not done.
Here are some photo's:

First the Mumak itself, his right tusk needs some work.
I added some rope, and I'm thinking about adding some additional "leather/cloth" with paper in glue.

Image

The next photo is a close up of the head and the skin.
I am thinking about adding some more highlights.

Image

The third is a close up of the base.

Image

A close up of some Rohirrim dead.

Image

And finally the base itself.
It need some blood and I want to add sand and dead grass for a Pelenor fields look.

Image

Comments and commentary are welcome.

Up next are 12 Haradrim with bow and the Mumak Commander, and after that 5 Haradrim raiders.

Also bought some more Easterlings, but I have to finish my current project first.
