Well, last in first out, eheh... Really had to start with this one.

Its Luke Skywalker, from the original Star Wars (you know... the good ones ;)) from Knight Models. Its a simple and yet really nice miniature. Comes in 4 different parts (legs, torso, hands, and light saber). Glueing the legs to the torso really has no science, but manage to get the hands in the right place is a totally different thing. Not easy at all. The the lightsaber is easy to glue, but its such a tiny bond that you really need to be carefull handling the mini. But hey, its supposed to be a display.

Overall, really happy with it so far, but I still need to work a lot on it.

Looking good Mac, but not my favorite though.
But you know... me and Star Trek will never match... ;)
(he won't see much if he keeps his flashlight at his back... )

Still deciding on what to do for the base on Skywalker...

Next in line is Masklad, the Barbarian. Really nice 54mm metal miniature from Enigma.

Im trying a different approach to the skin tone, with different colours and also trying to wetblend.
Lots to do still, but Im not happy at all with the look (the picture isnt great either, its not as yellow irl). To worse things up, the flesh satinated on me a lot, most likelly due to excess of retarder medium. :/
Might just strip it and start over, really...

Well, I decided to keep going, and with a couple of thin washes of a 'fleshy' tone I managed to get rid of the satin an bit. Had to work the highlights and shades a bit more, but thats ok. Also did lots of bits and bobs pretty much everywhere else.
Much more happy with it now. :D

Unlike the previous one, these pictures were taken with day light. The difference really shows.

Good greif Mac! Your painting is brilliant, not sure how you could be disappointed with your original attempt at this guy, I'm guessing you have very high standards though. :) I can notice a difference though, the yellow effect has gone like you said.

What would you say is main difference in painting models in a larger scale? (apart from the fact its much harder). :P

Simply excellent, I can hardly believe it if that is not finished and you will actually do more.

Ehe, this is what I call a late reply!

Well, there is much more space, so the amount of details you can paint is much higher. This means you can try to do different textures and such, for instance. Also, you need to make sure transitions are nice and blend together nicelly or it will show quite a bit.

Anyway, been a while since I updated this thing, and you might have noticed might almost complete absence from the site in the latest months (I apologize for that, but its been a particular tough year for me with work), but that doesnt mean I completely stopped with the hobby. My backlog actually increased quite a lot, and among the minis I got are these two I'm working on at the moment.

First its a stunning 32mm Anakin Skywalker, from Knight Models. Need to complete the hands and light sabre (and OSL), the face and hair, and maybe try to get it a bit more "crisp".

The other one is from Tales of War and its a 32mm Crusader.

I'm particularly happy with the way the black cloak is coming a long... :D

That Skywalker is incredible. What was your technique for painting the robe?

@MMS: Its just layers and layers of thin paint, using diferent reds and flesh tones, adding purple and blues to shade.

Did some work on the base of the crusader. Still need to paint the grass and leaves to make them less artificial looking, and also do some drybrushing on the rocks. The pigments sort of killed what I had there.

Hope you like it. :D

Beautifully painted 'crusader' - the boots are more Three Musketeers than Kingdom of Heaven but then this is a more fanciful sculpt. The Anakin sculpt is far too much an exercise in cloth - again nicely painted but the physical form of Skywalker is lost under all that flapping cloth. Surely it could catch fire if it came in contact with the light-sabre?

I like the skin-tones a lot, but the split between het boobies goes a little too far up her chest I think.

You don't have Cinderella, Red Riding Hood (54mm) and Gabrielle Lunardiente I hope?
If so... I'll curse you and throw mine away... (nah ;) )

I wonder now whether MacG and TBB were secret collectors of Cabbagepatch dolls? There's a bit of the Disney fairy stuff going on here...
