so, after i washed and highlighted my haradrim with first badab black, then i highlighted the model with pure bleached bone, then i highlighted again with skull white. I HATE IT!!! it sucks, i just don't like it... :(

Image

Image

i tried on a rohan warrior to first paint the cloak with a layer of sneakbite leather, then i gave 2 layers of bleached bone and then i washed it with a 2/1 part of sneakbite leather and bleached bones. then i drybrushed everything with bleached bones and then i painted the edges of the cloak with bleached bone.
it looks to me like it's too brownish, i'd like something that shows the shadows, but leaves the original bleached bones colour.

please help me  i almost cried when i saw the result

thanks

You should've washed with Devlan mud, not Badab Black, its too dark for what you need. It's still pretty good though, and the blue is still very good.

Paint snakebite leather, then wash with devlan mud, then highlight/drybrush with bleached bone/dheneb stone.

Using the black on a light colored scheme was, as has been mentioned, not a great technique. You can try to glaze down the black by using a very thin coat of your base color ( like 5:1 water:paint or more depending on the color ) then highlight back up.

Here is a good chart to reference what paint to use for shade/base/highlight method when using the old GW colors. You can also use it to find more intermediate highlighting/shading
i.e.
look at snakebite leather-shade with bestial and highlight with bubonic brown. if you want more highlighting look at bubonic when it is a base-you would use vomit brown then bleached bone.
Hope this helps.

Jobu, some of the paints on that haven't been sold by GW for years.

I am aware of that, however it really does not matter since they are all gone as of next week. Thanks for the awesome critic and helpful commentary. Would you please provide another example of a chart with current GW paints in a fashion that illustrates the use of base/highlight/shade in the colors he is working with?

No need for sarcasm, there was actualy a point to it. As tiz16 is new, he won;t have any if those old paints, but he will have the paints still available for the next week and a bit, it is pointless telling him to use eg Vomit Brown, Leproes Brown, Tentacle Pink or Lightning Bolt Blue, because he is unlikely to be able to buy them.

Aye, it is the best wash, for ages, it was the only wash I had and it was mighty useful.

MS, I do not water it downn, but I am nowhere near as good as you.

If I use undiluted devlin mud on a face then i have to rehighlight the prominent features - if i add an equal parts mix water to devlin mud no rehighlight is required - probably me being lazy lol

If its an ordinary warrior, devlan mud usually is the final layer, and the skin is usually flat colour underneath, only heroes, commnad, elites, monsters and some cavalry get special treatment.

However, if you are going to point out a problem maybe you should try and help, it is VERY easy to point him to a chart that has equivalents by other companies which I guess I should have done.

chart

This conversion chart may come in handy when you need to see which of the new paints match the old ones (but its not exact)
When painting the off-white in my Haradrim (you'll need to scroll down a bit to see the white), I did a base coat of Deheb Stone, followed by a Wash of Gryphonne Sepia, before reapplying Deheb Stone to the raised areas. For the blue
For the blue, you could start with a basecoat of Ultramarines blue, wash with Asurmen Blue, reapply the Ultramarines Blue and then highlight it with a mix of Ultramarines blue and skull white (not too much, maybe 3:1)
I hope this helps :)

It seems like your off to a good start though. Keep it up 8)
