Here is the finished model:

I'd say this is my best painting to date and yet when I started I didn't have a lot of interest in the model either as a sculpt or as a character.

Hi guys. This week I started a project that I have been contemplating for a long time - painting an army for each faction. This type of large scale painting is a discipline I have struggled with in the past but I now feel I'm ready to take on.

To start with I'm doing the Grey Company which will consist of 6 dunedain, 24 rangers, Halbarad and Aragorn (once I get hold of an appropriate model)

The dunedain I painted first using straight forward layering. I think these need a little more work at a later date as the midtones are way too dark but are okay for now.

The rangers I really like. The colours go well together and were quick to paint despite keeping my washes locked away.

I agree, the earthen tones on the clothing are well perfected and look suberb :yay:

the faces look good from what little of their faces are visible.

The rangers are almost finished and I have finally won an ebay auction for the excellent breaking of the fellowship Aragorn to lead my grey company. Until he arrives I'm working on my entry for this month's painting competition. Most of the work had been done within the first couple of hours giving me plenty of time to sharpen the details. Though I am wary of doing too much extra and spoiling the overall look or doing something stupid like accidentally touching my brush to the wrong part of the mini...

Thanks guys.

I'll take another photo in the morning with daylight as they look better than when I use my solitary lamp. One thing I have noticed on the photos is that the pupils and irises aren't aligned. I can't see this on the actual model so I'm not sure how I'm going to correct this other than by getting a new pair of glasses
