Special Painting Challenge: Royalty!

Hello everyone! Welcome to the thread for the June Painting Challenge!

Rules

1. A miniature is decided upon before each monthly painting challenge. This month is the fourth 'Special' Painting Challenge where instead of a single miniature being chosen, a theme is chosen. This month will be a 'Royalty' themed challenge as voted for by the community.

The rules to enter this are simple, you can enter any model that could be considered 'royal'. This could be any King, Queen, Princess or Prince in Middle-earth (for example King Elessar, King Theoden, the King of the Dead, the Witch-King, Thranduil, Legolas, Galadriel, The Spider Queen etc).

If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature/s you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature/s 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT+1 of June 30th, 2012. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos please, this allows you to show your miniature off from front, back and each side which is more than enough.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. In previous painting challenges, the winner and runner-up recieved prizes in the form of gold coins, however with the websites current situation, gold coins are not available to give as prizes, so no prize is available at the moment.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all!

Here's my proof picture for Éowyn. I hope it isn't too big or wrong in any way, I've got no idea how to change that...

@Telchar: it's showing well, no worries!

@edge: I can't wait to see that! I've never seen that model anywhere except in GW's website and WD.

I had Gil-Galad primed and based in my reserve box, so I started painting him. Proof pic:

And yesterday's progress:

Face, chainmail and outer cloaks are finished, other parts are just basecoated.

Wow, valpas, you're fast! And talented too, but everyone knew that already.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's entries. Here's mine: it doesn't get much more royal than this guy, among Men anyway.

And (sorry for the blurriness):

I just spotted those weird holes in the paint in her hair, will go over that later.

@Meatboy - nah, the King is metal not finecast - I just primed it with white (like I usually do) and this makes it look like finecast I think. I haven't bought any finecast yet. I am making my first ever trip to a GW store in the next week so I might check it out then. Though I don't have high hopes!

I'll probably be entering this one, I just need a camera to take a proof pic. I'll be entering a king of men.

@Valpas, his face looks incredible! I really like it, and the yes look great. Good work! :yay:
@Telchar, good work too, I can't wait to see it finished.

Let's see if I can find any models that fit the category.
I have an unpainted Witch-king but not sure if there's any other ones in my backlog. We'll see. :D

would Denathor count? I know he was only on a throne as a filler of sorts.

He might not have the title of King, but he is the most noble and powerful of all Men, so I would say yes. It's all up to Red Corsairs though.

I think Faramir would count, since he is granted the title of Prince of Ithilien after the war, and anyway he marries Eowyn (spoiler alert!) so he becomes royalty twice over. I can't see how Boromir and Denethor could be considered royalty: rulers, yes, but very specifically not royal rulers. But since this is all for fun, maybe it's ok?

Stewards are still 'royal' in a sort of way, like a President in a country with no monarch would be a count-as-Royal.

Not in America he don't. Maybe a president of some 3rd world country would count as royalty, but the American President definitely doesn't, even if he might think so. I would say that they should be allowed, but only because they are rulers, not necessarily royalty.

He is the King of Rohan (after Pelennor Fields), so definitely.

This is a rather suitable theme with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations at the moment!
